I have an AMD Phenom II X6 1055T that was running 6x cores with 3x video cards until the motherboard caught on FIRE.

Got a new MB but now I only run 4x cores and 2x video cards for safety.

The CPU runs BOINC projects while the video cards run Folding@home.

Works pretty good except for the FIRE...

Not sure exactly. Either the hex core or the 3x video cards (or the combination of the two) drew too much power.

The video cards are 9800GT low power edition cards which means they lack an external power connection and have to get all the juice from the mother board.

The CPU is rated at 125 watts and the motherboard was said to be good to 140 watts??

Here is a link to a picture of the burned motherboard:

I've got 10 cores! 4 in my desktop, 2 in my notebook, 2 in my netbook, 2 in my ancient workstation...

I'm kinda just waiting for the National Geographic special inside look on the curious creature: Tweakboy.

It's mating habits, it's social hierarchy and the such.

my 3930K can perform tasks in real time that are otherwise impossible on lesser systems, such as the i7 2600Ks I've since replaced with the 3930K and the i5 3570K that I use in a portable/backup gaming rig (all 4.5GHz or greater)

honestly I kind of wish Intel had enabled the last two cores with the new 3970X, I might have seriously considered it for $1000

ultimately its up to each person to figure out what tasks they need their CPU for and whether or not its worthwhile

<--- forums first gulftown user.

yes i know the power of gulftown and hexcores with HT when it comes to encoding / editting.

now gaming... uhhh i think clock speed saves me the most... even my gpu's are almost useless... why do i have tri-sli when 90% of all the games which come out are still in DX9??? >.<
