Basically I was under the impression that our latest job, putting up a hell of a lot of crown molding would be nice and easy, but it was really kilelr on my lower back. I didn't think I needed to use my belt (that wide black thing that has velco....not sure what it is called) since I wasn't lifting anything.

The thing is, I was sustaining this modeling (thick pin iirc) consistentnly all day on top of a ladder with my body outstretched and leaning on the wall using only my hands to push up on the molding to keep it in place.

Now my back is in really pain. it feels like the connection to my hip is jammed or soemthing.

I have tried a bunch of back excercises but then the pain seems to go away or move aroudn a bit....

I was goign to go swimming tonight but now I am not so sure....

anyone?

I hurt my back unpacking trucks. Doc put me on Daypro (an anti-inflammatory) and the stuff does wonders for strained/pulled muscles.

Take it from someone who has dealt with back pain, get it dealt with NOW...or suffer the consequences later. Also go swimming it'll help take the pressure off your back which is often times causing the pain.

As a general note I found that meds that reduce swelling and pain seem to help more than meds that just take away pain. PM me if u have any questions.

See a chiropractor. (and ask around to try and find a good one). If something is out of line, a chiro is the only doctor that will fix it. The rest will just give you drugs.

Actually - I haven't noticed anything. Shame on you for making the assumption that people would notice.

My MD pretty much offered me a lifetime supply of Vicodin and Flexirol until I was "ready for surgery".

Watch out for chiros though - I went to a chiro for my neck and they were going to do adjustments, weights, etc. Something didn't sit quite right with me though, and I wound up talking to my rhuematologist, who recommended a neurologist.

My arthritis had affected my neck and damaged the joints. I needed (and got) a neck fusion. If I'd followed through with the chiro, they could have seriously damaged or broken my neck since it was weakened, and I would have gone through a lot more pain.

Lay on your back on the floor, lift your legs up 90 degrees and try to cross them over to the floor without raising your shoulders.

Lay on the floor with your butt up against a couch and your calves laying on the couch where you would normally sit. This will take some strain off your back.

Heat. Ice. Or, heat then ice then heat then ice........

One will probably work better than the other. Heat on strained muscles, ice on pinched nerves.

Lots of Ibuprofen.

I agree, a chiropractor will actually fix it, a doctor will give you drugs. If the chiropractor tells you that you have to come in 4 days a week for the next x amount of weeks, find someone new. Usually a good one will say once a week for how ever long.

True, people need to find a good chiro and trust their instincts.

My chiropractor is 54. He was diagnosed with RA when he was 18. He's still going strong and just had his first RA related surgery last year... on his foot. Leads me to believe he knows a thing or two about dealing with RA.

Depends how severe the problem is. Some may have you come in frequently at first and then gradually decline frequency of visits.

Do you have more pain standing or sitting? If sitting is a problem, get an Aeron.

I have the same injury from putting up shelving in my daughters room.. Feels like someone is trying to jam the end of a broom into my hip joint.. it's hard to describe... my step-mother-in-law is a massage therapist and immediately knew what it was, apparently it's common and she sees it all the time. She couldn't mess with me because she recently injured her hand in a freak sledding accident and has to take it easy.... but she reccomended walking and heating pads...

:)

I would say go see a massage therapist and take some ibuprofen...

Get some Vioxx, it's a wonder drug, my back was killing me Sunday morning, took one Vioxx and it completely went away.

Weight training is also recommended to keep back pain in check.
