My little brother tried to kill himself a few years ago, he took 2 packages of over the counter cough medicene with DXM and cut himself up pretty bad. He was 14 at the time, and now he's 17. He has an undiagnosed chemical depression, and it's been a tough few years, but with medication and therapy, he is doing ALOT better, he says there is nothing he regrets more than trying to do it.

I did for one, so did alot of other people, read the thread. I find it heartwarming that all of these total strangers were able to reach out to this guy. We may very well have saved a life tonite. Even if this was a false alarm, It still speaks for the community at AT, and honestly, it's better than any online community I have ever been a part of.

Whatever the outcome is here (and I hope it was just a bad joke/misunderstanding/poor taste) I hope everyone learns the lesson that THE INTERNET IS NOT THE PLACE TO LEAVE A SUICIDE NOTE! If you've already decided to off yourself and have taken some "irrevocable" means to die, there is no need to post about it on the web. If anything, cancel your credit cards, make peace with an enemy, or do something 'constructive'. Its likely no one on the web will ever know if you were serious or not, or they won't care, and your message will be forgotten pretty quickly with the speed things move at around here.

Everyone needs to know that a 'goodbye cruel world' note on any forum will be taken seriously, and if its a 'joke' or shens in any way then SHAME ON YOU. People will go out of their way to get your IP address, contact your ISP, dispatch police and paramedics, and inform your family. This is not something to be abused, because woe it be when someone is serious and people do nothing because they think its just another hoax.

Now if you're having suicidal thoughts and need to talk to someone because you want help LIVING, then OMGHI2U!!!! You are more than welcome to seek help for living on the Intarweb...it can be very helpful in those situations! But if you're dying already, don't bother posting. kthanx.
