Don't get the WD 500GB. Get the 640GB drive instead.

Get the Gigabyte EP45-DS3L instead of the MSI board.

You are saving a whopping $20 getting the smaller SLOWER hard drive. The 640GB is the best bargain going for price vs performance. Also, that power supply is pretty low quality. Invest in a 500W Corsair or something similar.

You can save some money by looking around the FS/T forum for deals on some of your parts.

I find it is often cheaper to do things right the first time.

I don't know - I would need a way to get the RAM out without sullying my hands by touching the filth. I figured the G.Skill was a good substitute for "performance gaming RAM" because it had a pretty blue box with a sticker, obviously higher performance. Now I just feel betrayed. Make sure next time your RAM at least has lights on it. I wouldn't get anything less than 16GB of DDR4 for future-proofing.

mechBgon's guide to putting a computer together is still relevant even though some slots have changed; it's all much more simple than you'd think. RAM is slotted to only go in one way, CPUs just drop into the slot if they're aligned right and there's no way you could accidentally plug a hard drive in to where the RAM is meant to go. Everything is generally colour-coded, and moulded to only fit in one way. Just take a day to set aside to take your time over it, then read the motherboard manual and the case manual about installation and you'll be fine.

Well, it is sometimes referred to as thermal grease.

But I do wonder if it helps the bits and bytes get in and out of there any faster. The same reason you don't want any SATA cables to be kinked - the data gets backed up like in a hose, and the added pressure can cause memory leaks
