I'm 27 years old,... and I can't swim.

We lived across from a river. Everyone in my family could swim . Swinging out over the river on a rope attached to a tree then jumping off is a ton of fun. Think I might just go back next year, its been a while.

29 and I can swim. I think it's an important life skill that I will make sure my children have. 🙂

Anybody else out there my age and can't swim?
What I think is someone is going to give Darwin another nomination.

Unless you are very skinny, the human body is at least somewhat buoyant. I scuba and free dive and even without a wetsuit I need to wear my weight belt to avoid fighting my body's natural buoyancy on the way down.

At least learn to relax and be comfortable enough in water to let your body float so you don't have near drowning incident #3.

Well,.. what should I do? I think I'm too old to learn now,... all the swimming classes are taught by teenage girls,.. I'm not sure how I'll feel with them teaching me to swim,... lol,.. you know?

i took lessons when i was 8 with my brother who was 5.

my daughter is 5 now and we started her on lessons 2 years ago. we'll probably start the 2 year old on lessons next summer after she turns 3.

LOL,... I wanted to say that I'm not black in my first post,... but I didn't want to piss anyone off,...

I didn't learn until I was 17 in high school swim class. Only like 2 of us out of 20 couldn't swim. I have to say that I expected ridicule going into swimming class but everyone was suprisingly nice.

Swam and played Water Polo in hs and college, so that is a yes.

However, on the first day of water polo tryouts in highschool I thought I was going to die, haha. Before that I had only ever goofed around in my grandparent's pool or briefly flailed around in the ocean....

Yes. I'm no Olympic swimmer, but I can tread water easily enough and propel myself in a desired direction. I always thought some type of swimming ability was pretty much instinctive.
