Illustration: Next generation Mazda RX-7

Looks very possible. Styling cues match that of the RX8 and to make a coupé version would be a simple platform mod. It looks like it could be an RX8 with no Freestyle doors and forced induction.

Or maybe I am just hoping that is what it will be. Please Mazda, tell me before I place my RX8 order...

NFS4 - LOL at F@P!

On another note, if the Renesis motor produces 240Hp NA, WTF do you think it'll do forced? 350? Please let it be 350, please.

Tree Fiddy. I want Tree Fiddy.

Loch Ness Monster?

F@P 😕

I hope they give the Rensis some f*&king balls (i.e. torque). The current one has ~ 155 lb-ft, about as much as an S2000.

Why would you buy an RX-8? Doesn't it only have like 220hp??

Sexy! I hope it will be quick.

The old one did 0-60 in 4.9 - 5.2 seconds and 1/4 mile of 13.9 - 14.1 seconds.
Yeah, I have a friend who races his heavily modded RX all the time (he's put quite a bit of money into the car, it does the 1/4 right at 13 flat or so). I'll have to send him the link and see what he thinks.

I said ~ 155 lb-ft 😉

Either way, it's rather "lacking"

Forced induction will release torque and provide the kick in the back we all want.

And why would I get an RX -8? Cause the lease will be up on my Golf V6 4motion next year, need a replacement, buuuuut, that has 200ft/lb of torque....might miss it.

I don't think you'd notice if it if you drove it. Seriously. A car that light..and with the proper gearing...it wouild probably snap off the line.

The S2000 is light, it has 240HP and 155 lb-ft of torque. From all account I've read on the car, it is a BITCH to launch and to get "hooked up" because the engine bogs down so much.

The 3rd gen RX7, on the other hand, had 217 lb-ft to work with and only weighed 2700 lbs. KILLER COMBO! 😀

RX7 > RX8!!!

Methinks a tasteful spoiler on the back would break up the rear line just enough and make it look a lot more sporty.

Driven the S2000, wasn't hard to launch, and as the engine spins to almost 10,000 RPM you aren't always grabbing for gears. Ironicly, in my 6 speed Golf I am always grabbing for gears as it's geared short (need 3rd to reach 60Mph).

Engine redlines at close to 9,000 I think. And by launching, I mean full power from a stop. Not just cruising away from a stoplight 😉

Dude, when they came out, I test drove it and the saleman said (and I quote) 'It's very hard to get the back to step out in these', I promptly got the thing sideways to prove him wrong. He left me to it for the rest of the drive. But I digress, it is lacking in torque, you just need to pick your point without getting too much wheelspin, practice makes perfect.

Me=never cruise anywhere, it's ramming speed or nothing 😉 I am hard on my cars. Current car is company provided so it gets repaired for free 😉 Just had the Haldex rear end replaced under warranty. I have 'no' idea why it wore out in two years....😉
