I don't think you'd notice if it if you drove it. Seriously. A car that light..and with the proper gearing...it wouild probably snap off the line.

The S2000 is light, it has 240HP and 155 lb-ft of torque. From all account I've read on the car, it is a BITCH to launch and to get "hooked up" because the engine bogs down so much and you're constantly grabbing for gears.

The 3rd gen RX7, on the other hand, had 217 lb-ft to work with and only weighed 2700 lbs. KILLER COMBO! :D

Driven the S2000, wasn't hard to launch, and as the engine spins to almost 10,000 RPM you aren't always grabbing for gears. Ironicly, in my 6 speed Golf I am always grabbing for gears as it's geared short (need 3rd to reach 60Mph).

Engine redlines at close to 9,000 I think. And by launching, I mean full power from a stop. Not just cruising away from a stoplight ;)

Dude, when they came out, I test drove it and the saleman said (and I quote) 'It's very hard to get the back to step out in these', I promptly got the thing sideways to prove him wrong. He left me to it for the rest of the drive. But I digress, it is lacking in torque, you just need to pick your point without getting too much wheelspin, practice makes perfect.

Me=never cruise anywhere, it's ramming speed or nothing ;) I am hard on my cars. Current car is company provided so it gets repaired for free ;) Just had the Haldex rear end replaced under warranty. I have 'no' idea why it wore out in two years....;)

You have an AWD 6spd Golf? Oh wait.. you live in London.. too bad we don't get those here. (Besides the R32.)

159 ft/lb

250 hp

Not all models come with 250hp/159 ft-lbs.
The auto has only 210hp, but it has more torque at 164 ft-lbs.

On another note, if the Renesis motor produces 240Hp NA, WTF do you think it'll do forced? 350? Please let it be 350, please.

Tree Fiddy. I want Tree Fiddy.

Loch Ness Monster?

F@P

Where was there any indication that forced induction would be used?

With the 350Z and upcoming Supra staying naturally aspirated, I don't know if the RX-7 would be blown...

Actually, since they have the RX-8 competing in the Z/Supra segment, and if Nissan brings over the GT-R (V6/V8+FI), then there's a possibility that the RX-7 would be FI.
All depends on their pricing scheme. I don't think they would really want the RX-7 and RX-8 stepping on each other's toes.

But none of them look nearly as good as their early 90s counterparts.

word is the next gen rx7 will not e based on the rx8 platform, what i've heard from many rx7 people is that they're looking to come with a larger displacement motor (either widening the rotors by 10mm <13b-renesis to a 14c-renesis> or by going to a 3 rotor setup) rather than going forced induction. That's not to say mazdaspeed won't have a turbo model or something. One of the goals of the production team is/will be according to mazda people, to make it lighter than the 3rd gen... meaning... it will be at most (if they're successful) a 2700lb car with some good kick to it :)

bigsmooth, if he's got a 'heavily' modded 3rd gen, he should be better than 13 flat unless he's getting some traction problems :)

btw, the "next gen rx7" in that pic looks like the mazdaspeed prototype rx8

I could be wrong on the numbers, he lives down in Cali so I don't see him very often. He's got a lot of money and he is obsessed with his car (it's not a daily driver, track car only) so I imagine he's got one of the faster RX-7's around. :)

People who just want to be seen in a sports car :)

I thought Mazda said that they have no plans of turbocharging the Renesis? Anyways...looks weird. I am guessing it might be just a sportier/coupe version of the RX-8 (?)

2003 S2000 weighs ~2810 lbs. Less torque, more mass than RX7.
