Nope. There would still be a toll increase and it would probably be larger. Aside from that, the only difference would be that a different set of well connected cronies would get a cut. Oh, and they'd cut education spending on the same bill.

lols @ "liberal paradise" for toll roads. any free market libertarian would support toll roads. the people using them support them directly. that does sound like paradise as long as my regular taxes lower to coincide with the raise in toll road fees.

No. A true conservative would use tax dollars that every person would have to pay, then bid out to at least 4 private companies (half of which must be non-union) and select the best value/quality of work. Also bonuses for on time and under budget/bid.

How can they do that they don't believe in taxes ...STARVE THE BEAST!!

Our taxes in Wisconsin are higher then Illinois and we don't have tolls here but our roads are much better.

From what I've been told (don't get across the river much) WI doesn't use salt on the roads. Our roads get torn up over the winter every year, so many crappy roads here. :(

that's another way to do it. both are fine, just don't bastardized either and you should be ok imo.

spidey, why do you think i said that? if that's not what they're doing then fuck em. i'm just talking about the toll road shit in general. toll road prices going up to pay for toll road renovations makes sense, once renovations are covered, prices should come back down to maintenance + emergency fund.

We switched to using special chemicals because salt was found to leech through the concrete and eat the rebar under the roads which is baaad.

If a toll has ever been reduced in history, I would agree. They're trying to float the idea here in KY to pay for interstate river bridges to IN rebuilt that are a few decades behind needed.

It's always "we need the tolls to build/upgrade this". And yet the tolls are never reduced or removed once that return on investment has been met.

It's a big deal here in KY as the impact on business would be huge.

So the increase in tolls is to pay for massive spending to improve the roads. What the hell is everyone getting their panties in such a twist about? This is how government spending an economics are SUPPOSED to work. Are people just so knee-jerk that they have to automatically bash anything that the "other guys" do?

Timing is a bit off to say the least.

Massive tax increase + recession = double toll fees?

IL is broke, just like CA, just like every other liberal controlled state. So they raise taxes and fees and are shocked when their "revenue" still decreases.

It's a documentation of the absolute failure of the liberal mindset and policy. Let us document it and hope others can learn. This mentality has proven failure all over the world, and yet the liberal still maintains it's a good idea in spite of facts and basic freaking economics.

Wisconsin was facing a financial disaster and it wasn't until conservatives got control of the state that the future seems brighter.

Nick, this is the mind of the liberal. It's all they know.

1) have debt, raise taxes and fees to get more "revenue"
2) "revenue" keeps going down in spite of said increases
3) raise taxes and fees even more to make up
4) "revenue" keeps dropping
5) This is called a "death spiral" and it is the mind of the liberal.

not to mention reports are saying the toll increase is NOT enought to cover it. So expect yet another increase in the next year or so.

glad i don't use the tollway much anymore.

then the people there need to take a more proactive role in how their tax dollars are spent. if the assholes won't listen, vote them out.

PS- they should take a lesson from Indiana and sell the toll roads to a private company.

Probably one of the most successful State business decisions of the last 50 years.

From the article: "While tolls have increased for those that don’t use I-PASS, the increase is the first hike in 28 years in the base rate paid by 75 percent of all tollway drivers"

This makes me think "about time". Much has changed in 28 years. No increases?
