There are large numbers of uninsured drivers in Alabama that are not illegal. Secondly, yes my wife does drive. Yes, our cars are insured. She is currently using her national driver's license (verified that she could with state officials (AG office, attorney for DPS) until she gets her license here. She does not have a state license. She will be going in the next few weeks to get it. She was unable to get it until she had her employment card because of REAL ID -- even though she is here legally and we are married.


Thank you for being honesty. Sounds like we just disagree on policy. I wouldn't expect an indigent defendant to pay for anything. Normally, interperters, transcriptionists, experts, etc are costs born by the defense. However, if someone cannot afford an attorney or experts... the state will pay.



I think jumping to conclusions weakens your argument. You seem like a nice guy who cares about the issue, but the stereotypes just doesn't help you.

It sounds to me like your wife is fine to drive in MOST places in the USA. Not every jurisdiction may recognize an international driver's license, but that's a separate issue.

Because I have no PROOF that the guy was illegal, I didn't come out and ACCUSE him of being illegal, but because of the indicators, I DID imply that I think he may have been illegal.

Kahleeforneeya is floundering, in a large part, because of all the illegal immigrants here. We house them, we educate their children, hospitals are having to close Emergency Rooms because the illegals use their services for their family doctor, then don't pay, they are collecting government services in record numbers (even though it's supposed to be illegal to do so) they make up approximately 50% of Kahleeforneeya's prison population, and when I read my daily paper, there are always crimes committed by "persons who are "Undocumented Aliens." Not only are a large percentage of the Hispanics who come here doing so illegally, they are causing a huge increase in the crime rates. We just lost the ranking of #1 in the nation for car thefts. The police agencies speculate that most of that is due to:
1) Gangs made up of mostly illegal immigrants and/or Mexican gangs
2) Vehicles stolen here and smuggled across the border into Mexico.

Next, you have the problem of the illegal immigrants running back across the border (when they can) to avoid prosecution for their crimes. Have a bad car accident with no insurance or license? Vamanos back to Mexico...come back in a year or 2 under a different alias.
These illegals use all sorts of false ID to work, get government services, and to try to blend in and avoid detection...and each one of them who uses false or stolen ID is guilty of more than just the crime of illegal entry. Many times, those who use stolen/phony ID also commit identity theft and the resultant crimes that accompany that.

I'm not against legal immigration, although I do think that with the current problems facing our nation, it needs to be curtailed somewhat and stricter restrictrictions placed on those who wish to immigrate here. We need to weed out those who would become leeches on the system and only allow those who would benefit our country.
