Saying this country was founded on immigration is a non-argument. Immigration back then was almost entirely based through ellis island where everyone was LEGAL and they have to be inspected for health and well being. Illegal immigrants can bring any form of unregulated disease with them. The least i ask is they speak english

Also keep in mind that at one point the NV gov wanted to grant ilegals voting rights...

There was a study done by USC and it showed that something like 80% of illegal immigrants eventually enter the middle class within 20 years. I'd think that's moving up the economic ladder since they come over with almost nothing.

Hahaha!! I know that story. My daughter has been vegetarian for about a dozen years. A dozen years of reading labels for whey products, gelatin and all sorts... a dozen years of having to use an entire different set of utensils and workspace. Anything less is not true vegetarianism. Your point is a very good one.

This point is also true... in a way. Indeed, they come here and better themselves educationally, and financially. However, as far as learning the language... these days, we must provide all documents in a variety of languages. Driver's licenses, voting forms, school stuff... immigrants demand that we cater to them.

And there is absolutely no problem with that, what-so-ever. That is how this country was founded. And most level headed, fairminded people do not begrudge anyone that. The problem lies, however, when they get prefential treatment... free medical care, special rates for education, free education, working illegally and shipping the money overseas, instead of spending it here... etc... and the legal workers, and citizens of this country have to foot the bill, even if they cannot afford these things for their own families. That, I believe, is where the resentment comes in.

Some people say that this is a great thing, as it eases the burdens on the legal workers and taxpayers. Others claim it only encourages the illegals. Unfortunately, there is not enought compromise between these two opposing sides.

But I also think that many Americans are spoiled. I think there is a lot of people in this country that want to earn high dollar salaries and pay cheap prices for goods. They cannot have it both ways. People cannot expect to get paid high dollars and buy jeans for $15.00, have their lawns mowed for $10.00 and drive two luxury cars per family. The slack is taken up by people who will work for that low wage. And they work for wages so low, that the people who would work for just above minimum wage are being forced out by those that will work illegally for cheap wages. I was reading an article on how college students cannot find summer work. And people who are looking for an additional part time job for a little extra income have been squeezed out.

And I do believe that the companies that hire illegals should be held accountable. Corporate greed and the never ending push for a better bottom line above all else, has definately had an impact on wages, job security and pleasant working environments.

Indeed. High school students have this problem also since they are on the bottom of the job ladder. It's not often mentioned, but the people who have had the highest percentage increase in unemployment during this last recession was the < 18 demographic.

right now in california, they want illegal immigrants to get drivers licenses!! and they will administer the test IN SPANISH!

I'm from NJ and we have a ton of farms. Illegals make up a great deal of the farm workers and they actually do other type of work such as cleaning floors, wash dishes, mowing lawns, etc... Low skill and low pay go hand in hand with hiring illegals.

My point is who els is going to do this type of work? White America? please... Try to find a young teenager who will cut grass or pick berries for $6 an hour? Your not! Big and small business rely on illegal immigrants and that's why the government turns its back on this situation. My parent's owna cafe and every year they have a hard time finding help so they turn to immigration.

About the voting rights:

Republicans love illegals because they make big business happy. They can hire cheap labor that white America refuses to do. As I stated in a earlier thread how many white teenagers are going to work for $6 an hour picking berries in the sweltering heat or how many are going to mop floors for $6 an hour?

Democrats love illegals because they could possibly represent a large voting block for their party. Most minorities tend to liberal and vote democrat.

I'm a strong lib on most topics, but I still have to ask all of them what part of ILLEGAL they don't understand. I'm all for compassion for anyone and everyone who's here legally, but I strongly oppose giving illegal aliens drivers licenses. I think that's an open invitation to terrorists. I don't think we owe them much in the way of social services, beyond immediate emergency medical attention. That's one reason they run the border in the first place.

What bothers me most about this is, every illegal alien cut in front of all those who are trying to work within the law and enter the country legally. That simply is not fair to those with the integrity to play by the rules and encourages more illegal entry.

I'm sure there are exceptions that merit consideration, but in general, if they're illegal, lock 'em up, lock 'em out, and ship em out.

This line of reasoning is ofter brought up but it is poorly conceived in my opinion. Those job functions were performed before the rise in illegal immigration by US citizens. In order to get Americans to do those jobs, you'd simply have to pay a lot higher wages. It's not a strange concept really. People used to raise families on the wages they'd get from cleaning floors or picking produce.

True, but that's not going to happen in today's society. In the past we had factories that paid workers a decent salary. Well there all in India and Mexico now. It comes down to one thing: Money! If I own a business and can get people to work for me for $6 an hr I'm going to pursue that option rather than pay someone a half decent wage.

I work midnight security while attending college. I get paid $9 an hour. How can anyone survive on that chciken scratch? It amazes me when I see grown men working for Sears or Macy's at $7.25 an hour. Of course, most of their worforce is comprised of immigrants. As I stated earlier what teenager is going to clean floors for $6 or $7 an hour? Hell, if you paid them $10 an hour I doubt many would do the job.

Also it's called the restructing of the American economy. To make a half decent wage in today's society you had better a) be college educated or b) know a good trade such as plumbing, construction or heating. That means you had better have some type of marketable skill that will land you a good paying job. I hate to say it but a chimp can pick berries and/or clean floors. That's why the people that do this type of work get paid a low wage.
