I have a friend who used to scan each book I bought, then I could board and bag it and put it in storage and still read the book. He used to work at a print shop and had little to do, so he figured free comics.

If you don't care how much they're worth, you can always have them bound (although it's a little spendy).

I got rid of my long boxes in favor of 3-ring binders with plastic sleeves. That way I can label the binder and keep it on a bookshelf.

Minnesota?

Or Michigan... or Montana... any state beginning with an M basically. Ooh, but "Bastards of Madagascar" has a nice ring to it.

I'd still need a lot of shelf space. I think the longboxes would be a bit more compact.

I used to try to keep up with every issue of my favorite comics, but my tastes grew more narrow and eclectic as time went on, and I started just buying the TPBs of most series. I only keep up with one or two series these days, everything else I get in TPB.

I have a bloody CD that I opened, and it turns out I can't play the damn thing on my computer other than the first track. Can't play it, rip it to MP3, et cetera. Plus it looks like the damn CD itself may be damaged. I swear, if they're going to make the damn CDs unplayable on my computer, they could at least make sure the CD is in good shape before packing it up and sending it out.

Not really related, I just wanted to rant a bit and didn't want to make a whole thread for it.

I get TPBs of stuff that's out of print. I did that for Preacher then almost ended up bidding against a friend to get a run of the comics on ebay. :Q

My tastes have gotten broader, so I'm buying more and more everytime I go.

I got hooked on Preacher when a girl I knew in Oregon sent me the first TPB. I was hooked, got a friend's wife hooked when I got her a copy for Christmas or her birthday, can't recall which since they're the same day for her. :p I started buying them regularly, but don't have the whole series. That is one collection I would like to finish, though.

By the way, the CD is the Shrek 2 soundtrack. Total departure from my usual musical tastes, but I just really liked the Jennifer Saunders take on "Holding Out For A Hero." Of course, that's not the one song that I can play from the damn thing. :(

I bought irregular copies when it was in print. When I started going to comic shops again I picked up the TPBs. I let the friend that got me back into comics read them, and he got hooked. Almost bid against him on ebay for the entire run. Managed to get a signed comic out of it too, and just picked up 2 issues signed by the cover artist.

I'm not sure if Preacher or Sandman is the best series ever yet, I haven't finished Sandman (2 or 3 more TPBs).

I didn't care much for Shrek 2. I think I was just lost because I hadn't seen the first one, and there was no sound.

I haven't read Sandman yet, just some of the Death spin-offs. Not sure where to start with the Sandman ones, I need a chronology for them. I like the various Timothy Hunter series, which have some minor cross-over stuff with Death. I also have a stack of Hellblazers from the same girl that sent me the Preacher TPB, I really need to read those.

Audio would greatly enhance the experience of viewing Shrek 2. :p

For Sandman, start with the first trade paper back. ;) I read what I think was the first Hellblazer TPB, and it was pretty good. I plan on picking up more of them when I'm done with Sandman. Transmetropolitan is good too. I burned through those TPBs.

I figured sound was important for Shrek 2. I plan on watching my roommate's Shrek dvd at some point, then I might be ready for the sequel. :p

I have no idea which is the first one. Is it simply called Sandman, or does it have a sub-title?

"Preludes and Nocturns" although my spelling may be pretty poor there. :p They are labeled too, so if you're in a comic shop you should see the #s.

That's a tough call. Preacher was more consistent, but Sandman reached farther. I like to reward ambition (although I find it funny to suggest that a story featuring God being taken to task for the injustices of the world isn't ambitious). I did gloss over a lot of the later Sandman stuff -- I didn't care so much for The Kindly Ones or The Wake (and it had already started to lose me a little bit with Brief Lives, I think), but a lot of the earlier stuff was just great. One of the few examples of a comic that could actually pull off some horror aspects successfully.

They may have older editions still populating the shelves, I don't recall seeing numbers on them.

I started reading Hellboy back before the movie came out. I like it quite a bit and it's tempting to splurge and get the various series, but I think I am going to stick to the TPBs for now. Don't need even more stuff taking up room when I still have a bunch of comic grab boxes to get rid of.

Yeah, Preludes and Nocturnes is the first.

The order is:
Preludes and Nocturnes
The Doll's House
Dream Country
Season of Mists
A Game of You
Fables and Reflections
Brief Lives
Worlds' End
The Kindly Ones
The Wake
(and I guess Endless Nights would fit in after that, but it wasn't part of the actual series)

I'm getting more into the sandman series as it moves along. I finished 7 or 8 a week or so ago and it makes me want to get back to the shop soon.

Hellblazer is the stuff to pick up now. The movie is still scheduled for February I believe, so the prices might jump up soon. :Q
