Careful, this forum is full of wide-eyed college kids who are just getting back from some liberal blow-hard professor's "lecture."

Interestingly, I was a conservative until well after I graduated college. Then Bush showed me the true meaning of conservatism and I've been a liberal ever since.

Bush was not a conservative. A jackass maybe, but not a true conservative.

You show me a true conservative in the Republican party and I'll give you a shiney new nickel (Ron Paul doesn't count).

Dickweeds? I don't know what they call themselves these days. They pretty much boil down to "Anti-Anything a Democrats says".

You forgot the bitter Bush apologists...there's no shortage of them here either.

That's not quite as bad as old people protesting "Socialist health care." I'm not sure what the hell they think Medicare is.

I'm still waiting for those same people against "socialized health care" to also protest our socialized military. We all pay taxes, and the government pays for a military which is said to protect the country from external threats. Thus it would seem like it is socialized, no? One government-run organization, we all pay, we all get equal protection.
But that's ok, because it's an organization whose most final goal is to have the ability to efficiently kill people, not help them live.

Dave, btw, I expect to see your "Drive for Five" thread bumped up soon. Oil is heading towards $80 and gas is over $2.50.

It's okay because it's in the Constitution. Geesh, do you guys have anything better to do?

Ah, the "no true Scotsman" defense. It's a common fallacy.

Sarcasm? Can't tell.

Yes, there's a right to have guns, and there's the right for the government to operate a military, both of which are arguably for the welfare of the citizenry against a corrupt government, should they choose to act, and for the welfare of the state against external threats. It doesn't need to stop there though just because it's not explicitly outlined. The Constitution isn't the alpha and omega, or some flawless document. It was written by politicians a long time ago, people just like what we've got around today.
Why not go a bit further, and allow the government to help maintain the health of its citizens?

How about the fire dept? Socialist, why should you pay for careless people who start fires, make it an insurance thing too, people who pay will get the service, others won't, of course, just like with healthcare they will get it in the end and it will end up costing 10x more for the government just like your healtcare does.

Your government actually pays more for healthcare per capita than the UK while most people have no coverage through government.

If that doesn't tell you something is seriously fucked up then i don't know what will.

spoken like someone that's never actually been to college.

i'm not sure that i have any liberal teachers, maybe a couple that are center-left, but thats about it. The only politically outspoken professor i've had is a glen beck loon.

I guess one of my banking profs hated ron paul, but thats a pretty common sense thing to do, and is really pretty non-partisan.

Sure I'll meet you there!

But rather than protesting with you, I'm going to protest your protest. But don't worry... I'll bring a friend who will protest my protesting of your protest.

I would like to add to this meaningful topic, however, I'm actually in the middle of self-defeating my own argument to the extent that there is no logic to be found.

To be continued.

On a non related issue, I will be boycotting peanuts. Who's with me?

I see them all the time at school. Irritates the shit out of me.
Especially my Spanish teacher. She loves to spew her political opinions randomly in class. I wouldnt mind so much if she just talked ABOUT politics, but its painfully obvious she is trying to push a super-liberal agenda that borders on the bad side of communism.
And any student who doesnt fall into her web is going to be disliked a great deal. Guess who she hates the most right now?

Better than the alternative, which is this being posted in P&N and it getting 40 angry/stupid/trolling responses.

JoS, you've been around here long enough to know better than this.

Using common sense in any argument, especially about the US healthcare debate, is strictly forbidden.

If you do it again, we're gonna have to send you to Love & Relationships for 30 days. :D

As already mentioned, the old folks who rail against socialized health care..."But don't you touch my Medicare," are not making any sense. Medicare IS socialzed health care...and it works VERY efficiently. Is it perfect? No, no health care insurance plan is perfect...but the administration costs (per capita) are minimal, claims get handled quickly and efficiently.

Fuck these mega-insurance conglomerate corporations who make more money when they deny proper claims.

Only if you're boycotting boiled peanuts. Those fucking things are nasty. I LIKE roasted (and salted) peanuts.

I thought collage was all about pasting a large number of pictures cut out of magazines onto a board...:p
