If your car had a rpm limiter set at 2500 rpm....

I do it all the time... I don't let the car warm up, unless it's below 0F. So, on those chilly 10 degree days, I just drive without letting the RPM's get high for a while.

The point is not how fast your car runs at 2500rpm.

I've never drive a car that would accelerate so slowly at 2500 rpm that it would hold up traffic. I see people accelerate slower than that all the time.

Yes once it warmed up. I always try to let the car shift right around 2k RPM. 2500 would be no problem at all.

3.4 V6

99 gmc sonoma ext cab 4.3L V6 around 190hp and around 250 torque. 55mph is about 1600, 60 is about 1800rpm, if i do 70, it about 2200rpm. I have 3.42 rear end and automatic. My truck accelerates good without the rpm going over 2500rpm.

3.4L V6 in my Tacoma...I would manage just fine. 😉

I would top out at ~65 mph though... I turn 3000 RPMs doing around 72-75. :frown: I feel bad for my engine.

I'm rarely below 2500 rpm, and I certainly don't worry about going above it.

OH NOES teh 3k rpm my engine will go teh boom!

It's not so much the engine as the gearing. Admittedly, more torque on the low end will allow you to get around town better, but even on my 4cyl econobox 2500 RPM is enough to get around, especially with the 5spd. But :cookie: for you and your 3.8L v6.

with only 5sp, my celica gt can only do 50mph at 2500rpm in 5th gear!! 🙁 I require 3500rpm to hit 70!

it depends on what gear you are in. 1st gear at 2500 would be like piss people off. but i guess with an automatic its perfectly fine. i like taking it up to 5500 every once in a while.

I suppose I could, but I wouldn't like it.

Neither would my engine...

I usually don't even shift until I'm above 4-5 grand or so.

It's much harder on a smaller engine to lug it than to over rev it, assuming it's built well. 😉

No sh1t, whenever I try to go over 2.5 RPM it sounds like I'm racing (Toyota Tundra), and the car speeds up REALLLLY fast. Wow, I love the Tundra; it's the fastest truck I've ever driven. 😀

drive a real truck(f150) and then report back

My 850 Turbo (unchipped) would probably do about 75-80 at 2500RPM.

And to answer the original question I would be fine. I don't usually go above that unless I feel like getting a running start onto the freeway.
