If your car had a rpm limiter set at 2500 rpm....

My 93 camry can hit 68-70 at 2500.

I rarely ever accelerate above 3k normally anyway and a 2500 limit would be fine.

Only problem I see is on a bike, or maybe one of those civics. Even my gf's corolla can do it fine.

I could.
3.8L V6 FTW!

edit:
The point is not how fast you can go at 2500 rpm. It's about if you could drive around without blocking normal flow of traffic.

Heh, Supercharged 3.8L V6 with a lumpy cam and a 2600 stall torque converter 😀

I would hate it, but could prolly pull it off 😛

Thunderbird or GTP?

SHENS!!!!! you cruise around elementary schools at 5mph with a hand full of candy and a pocket full of pool. 🙂

People, it doesen't matter what speed you cruise at in last gear at 2500RPM...

What about getting there?

I'm sure that in some cars, it wouldn't be very fun, at the least, to shift at 2500rpm every time.. lol

I don't drive but what I know about propulsion leads me to the obvious that I cannot believe that has not been mentioned.

Ok, strike that! This is a COMPUTER forum. hehe 🙂

Diesel for the win. 😀

I actually self-impose this limit, unless there is a real need. I have a 3 liter v6 and I keep up with traffic fine only going to 2500 RPM's, then I let off the gas a bit and the car shifts gears. I do about 70 ish at 2500 in 4th.

62 mph looks like for my Valiant.

25.3 inch tire height
2:94 rear gear
62 MPH = 2486 rpm.

If I went from 205/70/r14 to a 215/70/r14 I could go Almost 64 mph = 2516 rpm

The speed at which a vehicle travels can be calculated from the engine speed, the gear ratios, and tire size.

engine rpm * tire circumference in inches * 60 minutes/hour
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
transmision gear * od gear * tranfercase gear * axle gear * 63360 inches/mile

2500 is a bit low for a 4 cyl, so acceleration from a stop would sometimes be a big slow, but it definitely wouldn't be a big problem. I'm never above 3000 unless on a steep hill anyway.

4cyl engine... city speed limits are 30 - 45 usually right??? maybe 10 - 15 seconds total acceleration time to 45

I'd say yes

I think you took the lead in two categories here:

1. Reading skills
2. engine size / torque.

Those monsters barely rev over 2500 LOL! (I know htey do)

hehe - 310hp and 590ft/lbs of torque are nice

redline is about 3700 - i only get close to that approaching 100🙂 most days I don't rev over about 2200 unless i feel like making alot of noise🙂

Honestly, not with my Prelude 4 cyclinder. I mostly shift at 3000-3500rpm to make traffic go a bit smoother. From stop-go in 1st gear by the time I get to 2500 a lot of grannies in their V6 and V8 are already on my ass. Once I'm moving then I don't cause much of a drag on everybody else.

Most of teh time I've revv happy so it's mostly a non-issue.
