AnandTech Forums, where I get 95 percent of all my goods. Sometimes I can find things there before I can find them anywhere else on the net.

I would if I could. But a combination of bad selection, high prices and terrible hours makes the few mom & pop stores undesirable. I can either pay $200 for an ASUS TUSL-C, which is the latest Pentium motherboard one of the local stores carries, or I can spend $140 for an ASUS P4B533 online. Some cities just have better stores than others.

I do buy as much as I can locally though, for the simple reason that shipping/return shipping is negated.

Order before midnight from Outpost and you get it the very next day. That's service.

Where do you live? Most mom & pop pc stores cannot even begin to compete with the large superstores. I live in Arlington, TX and for everyday items that I don't want shipped (either due to size or immediate need) I head over to my local Fry's. If I'm patient and can wait I usually shop the internet for the best price. Price needs to include shipping for internet and local needs to include tax for final price. Any local shops that can compete pricewise with those located in Silicon Valley are located north of Dallas in the Telecom Corridor. This is like an hours drive there and also back in horrendous traffic... no thank you!

The question was
If you were to buy all your computer parts from one store, where would it be?
My answer was Newegg. They have close to the best price for most things and have excellent customer service. I take a chance with the others. As far as purchasing something simple such Artic Silver, see above, I head over to Fry's. It is not worth purchasing online due to shipping costs.

I live in Portland, OR.

I'm surprised that nobody else has local stores that are competitive with online vendors. We have a few up here. (See my example above.)

Where I live the pop and mom shops can't touch newegg etc., Heck, the so called distributors around here can't touch newegg. And I live in a big urban area. Sometimes a computer show can get you a decent price but I'd rather deal with some online companies.
Portland is more of a tech center...maybe the competition there gets you a better price.

I'm with mastertech01! The first place I go when I'm looking for a part is the AnandTech Hot Deals Forum! It would be tough to be stuck with one vendor, but if that were the only choice it would have to be either Newegg or Multiwave.

The best and cheapest local computer store is PC Club, which is why I buy from Newegg ;) Actually, I probably would buy from PC Club if they had better prices and selection.

newegg

maybe not the absolute cheapest on everything but thier customer service and "no questions asked" return is worth alittle extra.
