No, I disagree with their lack of business ethics, their blatant and ongoing abuse of monopoly power, their protection of the Windows monopoly by creating and patenting proprietary alternatives to open standards that they then ram down consumer's throats, and their bundling of inferior stripped-down applets with Windows that destroy the market for full-featured versions.
But I'm not a "microsoft hater", I write Windows applications full-time for a living and do all of my gaming on a Windows PC (playing MS' Dungeon Siege right now).
sounds like you are run of the mill hypocrytical ms hater. most of them are like you, the don't want to correlate the fact that the job they do or the games they play are direct results of how well microsoft does its business.
Loyalty to your employer is admirable, but
blind loyalty is not.
1. MS created my job?
No, the work I'm doing would exist regardless of the dominant desktop operating system(s). And if MS hadn't spent (literally) over a billion dollars crushing Netscape by giving away IE and IIS I might be writing these apps as cross-platform java or something similar running on a "Netscape PC."
2. MS makes the games I play possible?
Not really. OpenGL was coming along just fine as a 3D API before MS decided to create the proprietary Direct3D to try to reduce the number of games available to non-Windows platforms. And some of the best games ever written (X-Com, Falllout, Planescape Torment) don't use Direct3D at all.
And MS bought Bungie and forced them to make Halo Xbox-only, so MS is taking games away from me.
You should read more about Microsoft's dealings (blackmailing intel, crushing netscape, forcing PC makers to only ship their OS and apps, etc.) before you argue that Microsoft competes on the quality of its products or technology. It's been a mix of good technical work plus underhanded business practices.
