I was and I didn't take it :)

One of my good friend's had a cousin who was some big shot at MSFT in Dallas and said if we wanted jobs there he would find us something computer related to do (would have been basic stuff like setting up PCs or networking them). Something to do while we were in college and could get a foot in the door there. Didn't want to move and didn't want to do computers as a career.

Tough call actually. I really like my job here, and I get paid well. I don't know if going up there would be the best for me. But I probably would if the money was good enough.

They have a pretty good compensation and benefits package so yes I would. I have a friend that works for them and says he could get me in but unfortunately they are in a location that I would not even consider trying to commute to from where I live.

Nope, unless it was really cool. I have friends at MS but it's just not for me. I would rather use a broad range of skills (development) than just use Microsoft technologies.

Maybe if writing code is all you want to do with your life...
You realize that MS has IT, Marketing, Sales, Accounting, Finance, Janitorial, Clerical, Engineering and whatever else people working for them, just like any other business, right?

I already patented the process of cleaning floors with a sponge attached to a stick. You'll have to pay me a licensing fee or ask Uncle Bill to buy me out.

No, the haters don't realize that. They probably think MS is some evil corporation where evil employees do nothing but code evil software that kills puppies.

You realize that MS has tuition reimbursement? You could work for them WHILE getting your degree!

Better question, how would onw get a job at microsoft??
You submit a resume and cover letter, just like you'd get a job at any other company.

No. Reasons:

1. I'm not really interested on working on Windows. My professional interests are elsewhere.
2. I dislike their business-ethics (or lack of it).

Feel free to disagree, but I don't care. Those are my reasons and they are good enough for me.

Yes!

I've applied a couple of times, but nothing has come of it yet....although they did offer me a position in Redmond, but I would rather stay here in Utah.

Depend on the position and the salary. Microsoft doesn't pay as good as other major IT companies, but they makes it up in stock option....well you know what happen with stock market for the past couple of years. They're also carefully organized which limit flexibility somewhat.

Obviously. I was replying in the context of the quote I was replying to - he was saying that one could get their pick of any job after going to Microsoft - which would only apply to jobs where you would be writing code. MS' marketing, sales, accounting, finance, janitorial, etc are nothing special.

For the record, I have nothing against Microsoft - I believe they hire good programming talent and like their products (ok maybe with the exception of Win ME). But I am not impressed with much else about the company.
