OK, try this. You see your future and it shows you are a Catholic Cardinal. Does that mean from now on you can just rape and shoot everyone that you hate? Go ahead and do drugs, visit prostitutes, rob liquor stores, vandalize property and generally wreak havoc? Doesn't matter what you do, because you'll end up a pillar of society!

Thanksgiving turned out lovely, thank you. I suppose my fear of holidays past had me anticpating the worst. Of course, the most vocal of the crew were not present, so let's hope that everything is settled by Christmas.

Ach, now you're really changing the question, Isla. There have been many, many sci-fi stories revolving around this question. Most based on your ability to "change" the future. But in the case of this topic, the question is asked "if you could foresee your future". The thorny issue it poses is, do you want to live your life knowing how it will turn out?
The problem with that is the scenario I posed. If your future can be "seen", then it's set in stone. There's nothing you can do to change it. Hence, you can go on a "Thelma And Louise" crime spree and still come out smelling like a rose. You might argue that you wouldn't even be able to force yourself to do those terrible things. Uh, sort of makes the whole question look all the more ridiculous, no?

Wahhhh, this makes a mockery of "true" sci-fi (not the Star Wars type)! "...if you had the chance to know when and how you were going to die..." If you knew that, you could live forever by staying away from where you know you'll die. Either that, or you would no longer have free will...
