Jesus, that poll makes it sound like Bush is the Pope and we his lowly vassals scum that we are are debating what we would do if God's emmisary on earth should come across our path.

How about F. Throw a (im)peach at him?

To the secret service. I in no way advocate throwing anything at any President. I am joking, please don't take me to Guantemeno (sp)

Edit: For the record to my fellow posters I am joking. I would be respectful to the man as a man and respectful to him as my elected leader even though I don't agree with many of his policies.

thank you.
i don't care if people hate the guy or not, but at least give him the respect any leader deserves. hell, its odd, because no matter what, countries like Japan have extreme respect for their leaders, and they'll respect even those people they hate.

Proper respect should be given to any elected official and the country itself. bash a leaders views all ya want, but when face to face with them, show some class and respect. It's just completely wrong not to show respect.

He has to earn it first

Being an elder to most people on this board alone should be all the reason alone to show respect, not to mention the immense weight he carries on his shoulders (at least, the percieved weight, since most people assume he has more power than he really does, and thus point all blame at him, as ignorant as people are).

would you give saddam, or how about bin laden a hug when you see them? afterall, either one of them must be older than you. how about that scum CEO from tyco? how about richard nixon? just being old doesn't mean you must respect them. does that mean you don't have to respect people younger than you? i respect people based on their morals, not their age, gender or race.

Respect is earned, not granted. He hasn't respected me, my views, others who share them, this planet, our Constitution, our nation, etc. If he isn't worthy of respect, then he will get no respect. Station or position mean nothing without the actions to prove their worth.

Not to invoke Godwin, but Hitler was older than me, and leader of a large nation, and a published author, and a painter (even if he sucked). JUST holding a position is no reason to respect someone. There has to be more to it than that.

Shake his hand, tell him of my displeasure, and hopefully gain something from it. Respect him? Sure. Vote for him or like him at all? Not in a million years.

Being a lib demo, in reality I would respect him and shake his hand if offered. He is still the US president after all and as much as I dis like his thinking and policies, I would give him a break and show respect if he was in person.
I might feel sorry for Laura too.

I seen Clinton back before he was elected in 2000 and missed a hand shake. I really regret that. Now Clinton is someone I would go out of the way to shake their hand. Hillary too, for that matter and Carter also.
I would even show respect to Nixon if he was alive and I seen him in person.

I am a lib demo, but I believe in the old time stand that you respect the current president regardless of you vote or like/dislike.

Lets be honest here. It was the Republicans that turned down this road of just disrespect and hate. They gave it to Clinton every hour/every day like a constant drum beat.
Now, they can not take the hate they dished out, and they lowered morals FOREVER.
And the so called "religious right" had a big hand in turning/creating this hate too.

actually, have you seen hitler's works? most of them are actually quite damn good, imo.
but past that, and in regards to the post of sniperruff, you two got me. but I think what I meant, is people who aren't like those who you suggested.
and again, damn you people who look at all the wrongs of the government itself and blame it on the president. if these things happened to your favorite president, would you react in the same way? party-favoritism is a horribly negative thing for the country.

my views on respect are hard to spell out, but any figure of your own nature should have proper respect paid to him, unless of course he, you know, slaughters people like hitler or stalin. i have not seen one crime of that nature committed by the president, and the things you people view as reasons to not pay respect to the president, are not things the president has as much control over as you like to imagine.

I'd shake his hand. I certainly don't like him, but I'd definitely show him the respect he deserves as our elected president.

I met Bill Clinton a couple years ago. I was much more excited about that meeting, since he is one of our best presidents. I'd show Bush the same respect I showed Clinton when I met him at a book signing at Borders.

😎

The thing is, I'm just as anti-democrat as I am anti-republican. Bush isn't just a member of a party however, he's a member of a fringe splinter party (pnac/neocons) and on top of it he's a religious nutbag. I don't think he's personally to blame alone, but he's definitely as much to blame as any other member of his administration. Taken collectively I view this administration as the worst in American history and probably the most disruptive to world peace in our history as well. It isn't possible for me to say enough bad about them.

My opinion of course, others are free to their own.

i'll tell him I am his best bud Tony Blair, now give me 2 secret service agents to protect me 24/7
