Jesus, that poll makes it sound like Bush is the Pope and we his lowly vassals scum that we are are debating what we would do if God's emmisary on earth should come across our path.

How about F. Throw a (im)peach at him?

To the secret service. I in no way advocate throwing anything at any President. I am joking, please don't take me to Guantemeno (sp)

Edit: For the record to my fellow posters I am joking. I would be respectful to the man as a man and respectful to him as my elected leader even though I don't agree with many of his policies.

thank you.
i don't care if people hate the guy or not, but at least give him the respect any leader deserves. hell, its odd, because no matter what, countries like Japan have extreme respect for their leaders, and they'll respect even those people they hate.

Proper respect should be given to any elected official and the country itself. bash a leaders views all ya want, but when face to face with them, show some class and respect. It's just completely wrong not to show respect.

He has to earn it first

Being an elder to most people on this board alone should be all the reason alone to show respect, not to mention the immense weight he carries on his shoulders (at least, the percieved weight, since most people assume he has more power than he really does, and thus point all blame at him, as ignorant as people are).

Are you just proud to be a sheep or what? Damn dude, show a little backbone will ya...

You're young so I really don't expect anything more, but damn...

Have some respect for the office, people

Wow. The office... I read these replies and shake my head in disbelief... Does it not matter that the man occupying that office has the moral standing of a worm? Does the coat make the man, or vice-versa? I don't think there's any other place in the West where the masses are so easily swayed by the idea "Whether he's right or wrong, we stand behind our Leader" - not to this extent.

What are you talking about? Do you realize that some people actually read the bullsh!t that you spew out of your mouth? THink about what we've said here. No where do we say, "We agree with all Presidential Policies and believe he is a good President blah blah blah." Ever heard of disagreeing without disrespect? I can fully disagree with his policies and call him a moron, but I'm going to have at least some respect for the President of the United States, my President, and at least simply give and handshake and say "pleased to meet you."

So you'd be fake and two-faced? Smile and say "pleased to meet you" then run off and call him a moron behind his back?

I'd simply walk away if I saw him around. I may stand off to the side and watch him and the people around him for a while, but I have zero desire to meet him or shake his hand.

You say that now but what if the opportunity arose in front of you to meet him? You wouldn't shake his hand if he went to shake yours?

If he walked directly up to me, without me being aware of it in any way before hand (highly unlikely), I'd probably end up shaking hands because I'd be caught off guard and surprised.

It's more likely he'd be working his way through a crowd and I'd have plenty advanced notice of him heading in my direction.

10 years ago, Jesse Jackson came to speak at the small college campus where I was a student. The place was small enough that I had an opportunity to see him up close and perhaps meet him. I went to the computer lab and spent the time emailing my girlfriend instead because I do not like Jesse Jackson and have no desire to meet him.

Unlike most people, an office or a title does not hold much sway with me. I evaluate people based on who they are and their actions, not the public roles they play.

Yes, but my statement that people should have respect for the office was more in response to people saying they would walk up and cuss out or slap the President (most were probably joking, but this is AT)

Yeah, most people saying that wouldn't dare if given the real opportunity. It would also be incredibly stupid to make any attempt to assualt the President. Secret Service does not joke around.

So you didn't even take the time to hear the guy out? You just turned the other way? That's not very mature. What was/is it about Jesse Jackson that you dissaprove of?

What do I need to hear? I've heard him speak on TV and radio in the past enough to know I don't agree with him and don't like him. Jesse Jackson is racist and will play the race card at every opportunity. He brings more harm to most situations than he helps.

Well, there was that one guy who called the president a moron or something right to his face. Bush responded something about not caring what he thinks. I'm sure there are others who'd insult the PotUS face to face.

On the other hand, I have no problem with you in the lab while JJ is speaking, unlike Cdubneeddeal.

That's fine. I would have liked to hear him speak. He did great things for this country such as negotiating the release of the pilot in Syria and the release of American prisoners in Cuba and Belgrade. He's been through a lot in his life. I think it would be interesting to hear him speak and to meet him.

I would do the same that I would do for any President: Shake his hand and say, "Hello, Mr(s). President.

I had the oppurtunity to do the same. For you Bush haters out there, just respect the position, not the man.
I feel the same way about President Clinton, don't like the guy, but his position I have the upmost respect. And, to tell you truth...both are known to be friendly amiable people.
I shook president Clinton's hand, and I felt honored. Firm grasp, and repsectful nod I got in return.
If Bush wasn't president or governor, he would probably be known as a nice guy. The same with Clinton.
Both Bushes and Clinton's had a lot of mud flinging. But they seem to get along when politics are pushed aside.
As said in Band of Brothers. You salute the position, not the man. Or something to the effect. Treat the Presidency with respect if you can't respect the person himself.
--edit--OMG my spelling sucks. I'm tired and rare form.
