Well...in addition to promoting/enforcing some morality and stability in society. There is a reason the Bible is full of incest, pedophilia, rape, beastiality, adultery, murder, dismemberment, and so on.

Man was pretty animalistic prior to moral codes and some organized social structure. Worse than animalistic, since animals usually do things for a good biological/survival purpose, whereas man often does them merely because he can or because it entertains him.

The world is still full of the things you listed despite religion coming along... I think the sadest thing is people will harp on half of them like they're new things and signal the decline of society.

That's something I've always found odd, is even when they have a majority opinion, religious people seem to always have a feeling of being persecuted. If its not by other people its by their devil or even their own god (but of course they deserved it then).

The fundies are actually trying to argue (and this is in fact TRUE) that THEY--The Fundy Christians--are THE MINORITY GROUP in this debate--and it is THEIR RIGHTS, AS A MINORITY that prop 8 is designed to protect! The "Gay agenda MAJORITY" is threatening their civil liberties. Because, you know, Christians are such a threatened minority in this country. Fucking amazing. 🙄

They use the "I'm a persecuted minority" argument to backpedal under a campaign of hate and bitter discrimination, yet the "We are the dominant culture" voice when others try to claim that they should be more tolerant of various religions, beliefs, politicians that don't pray to god, believe that laws are defined by God, etc. Fucking unbelievable.

If a higher deity exists, then I have an email address that they can mail me on. If they're that omnipotent, I'm sure an Internet cafe will be close by and they will know of it.
