Verizon FIOS doesn't have the same limitations at U-Verse, I think Verizon does fiber to the home, att does fiber to the node and then has some kind of high speed DSL link to the house

Yup. AT&T is rumored to be considering some kind of new DSL technology (I forgot the name) that will dramatically increase the bandwidth.
