Depends on HOW awesome, of course. Dr. Who style? You bet. But I've already done a lot of world traveling and other cool stuff, so right now I'm focused on my PhD.

Time travel would be great, I could be gone 100yrs and just come back 5min's after I left.

For world travel, would i be living off my savings? Or would this offer only give me enough to scrap by on or would I be traveling the world doing w/e I want and experiencing everything? For me they'd have to give me the funds to live good and have fun (I wouldn't have to tour the world like George Clooney but I'd want to be comfortable).

What happens after the 5 years? Am I being chased by creditors? If so, no thanks. That would make for a miserable life when I got back.

Yeah, pretty much. Plus the police inquiries related to you being a missing person, etc. So you'd skip seeing the world/universe because of the trouble after?

If I absolutely HAD to come back, yes, i would skip it. It's not worth the 50+ years of misery afterward. If I could stay gone then sure, I'd be up for making a brand new life.

I would do something amazing because I have nothing to lose, but traveling the world for 5 years isnt what I would call amazing.. Not by myself anyway

For me it matters more who I am with than where I am

Yeah. I don't think the OP has kids.

No way I'm leaving my kids. No freakin' way.

I never said I'd do it, just asked if others would.

I would not, actually. No kids but I would not leave my husband for that long.

It would have to be more amazing than traveling the world for 5 years.

Like being in space for a month would probably do it.

EDIT: And this assumes that people know I'm leaving and my bills and such will be waiting for me to come back with no penalty.

Nope, your edit does not apply. Stand up and walk away, leaving everything hanging. Would you or wouldn't you?

Then no... There is nothing so amazing to make me walk away from everything I have built for the last 15 years. And on top of that come back to the destruction caused by me walking away.

Creditors up the ass
Nowhere to live
Bad credit (making it impossible to buy a house or car)
One pissed off (probably Ex) wife
Parents who thought I was dead or hated them or something
Unemployable because I walked off my job without notice and haven't been employed for x years

Yeah, so many years doing whatever might be cool, but the aftermath would be ridiculous.

OK... Maybe making first contact with an alien species (non hostile please) would be enough. Like getting to hang out with them and see the galaxy and shit. But yeah, nothing of this world could get me to walk away at this point.

Let's assume all paid.

LOL. Hardly. Ive seen most of the world and done things most people only read about in books. I married at 28 .

Life isnt over. Its just a different kind of life. No less rewarding than sunrise in Mauritious, just different.

only if I could travel back in time. I'd really just like to fix several of the mistakes I've made thus far.

If I could take my wife with me and tell family I'm ok before I go then yes.

Otherwise no.

Traveling the world I could take or leave, but traveling the universe or thru time would be hard to turn down.

I don't get why I can leave a note? I would totally do it but not if it meant having my family and friends worry about me being missing for five years wondering if i'm a flake or dead.

Sure I would do it. If time travel is involved, I would simply live the adventure and then when the 5 years is up, go back in time to right before I left. Kill my old self that is spending his friday night watching internet porn and take over his life. Oh and then I would invest heavily in certain corporations and play powerball quite frequently.

No way... I'm getting engaged in less than two weeks and there's no way I'd drop her and my life to disappear for 5 years.

OP doesn't say once you hit the road you can't make phone calls to tie up loose ends. He just says 'stand up and go right now'. For those of us that haven't traveled the world/universe and don't have kids, it'd be a great opportunity.

Come on, all reasonable expenses paid (or maybe all expenses paid!).

Sure - I don't have a ton of responsibility outside classes and personal relationships. If I get a chance to go up and be the ambassador to humanity in an alien spaceship, hell yeah I'd do it.
