What kind of business would you open up? Assume you have plenty of time, only need to make about 700 a month to pay the bills, and have 10grand saved up to start your business. What would you do?

If 10k isn't enough, how much would you need to start the business you want?

One reason I don't bother to buy lotto tickets is the jackpots aren't large enough for the business I'd want to start until they exceed $100 million.

With another $10K I'd just keep my current job and send it off to the brokerage for more VFINX shares.

10k used to sound like alot when I was like 10. It sucks getting older and realizing that alot of your dreams are financially unatainable. Atleast they seem that way while in college.

You don't really need 15million to start a business, people start restaurants with 500K, but yea you need lots of money to do that, which is why people take out business loans.

Personally, I have no desire to own my own business... at least, not as my primary source of income. However, I do consider my hobby a business. If I had to open a business, I'd own a pizza shop. It'd cost at least 50k, plus loans to get a good start.

You need $700 a month? Well, if you only have 10k for a business and are planning on the business to be your only income, then you're setting yourself up for failure... You need a decent reserve of cash while you're getting started.

To celebrate the start of your business, let's throw a party to kick it off.

Oh no, you ate up all your capital with a plate of fancy hor d'eau, better luck next time.

who said it would be a restraunt? Mine would consist of a few labs. The clean rooms would run roughly 1 million a piece. That doesnt include any of the stuff inside of them.

I already own and run my own business, so i'd just invest it back into the company.

Spend some on online and offline marketing, upgrade a few computers and such.

Id pay 20 college chicks to make a special, never before seen, educational movie of my direction of course. Then sell the videos for a decent price.

$10k isn't much for starting up a business. You might be able to open up an espresso cart, but I can't see any business with only $700 in overhead a month.

If it were up to me, I'd love to open up my very own photo studio, but I figure I need at least $30k. And that doesn't even take into account monthly expenses like rent, utilities, liability, equipment insurance, etc.

I would never open a real business. I have no interest in it. I do stuff on the side for myself, as much or as little as I choose. But that's it. No way I'd participate in the bureaucracy and bs required in the business world...especially in dealing with the government.

I can't imagine you could do much for 10k though. Even fairly small businesses hit six figures very quickly.

can't imagine there's all that much that could be done with 10K.

personally, I could never imagine myself running my own business. I'm a great second in command / chief-of-staff type, but I try and avoid as much responsibility as possible ;)

You can probably start a small landscaping business if you hire a bunch of illegals to work for you.

How much startup capital you need really depend on the business.

I started my pizza restaurant with 100k cash and that was plenty. I later sold that for a decent profit.

I started my current contracting business with 3k. :) Was profitable from day one. Currently doing about 25k a month with > than 80% margin. :)

Now I'm helping my wife start her home business. It's online business dealing with export. She wants to make some side money while at home with kids. I gave her 20k for her initial startup. We shall see how it goes.
