If you found a laptop, what would you do?

I was thinking about if a laptop was just sitting there for hours, while you were somewhere and you saw it repeatedly alone, what would you do with it. I was just sitting here and I know that most of us here coulda just format it, reinstall a new OS and have a free new laptop. I was wondering what some of you guys would do?

A laptop, I'd probably try to find the owner. But I don't think I could resist browsing the hard drive.

I'd try to find the original owner and give it back. :)

Given the Jesus quote in your sig, I'm going to say this is just an attempt to bait someone into saying "yes" and then bashing their character.

So I'm gonna play Devil's Advocate and say - hell yes, I wouldn't have any issues giving the "Rick James" to that little voice in my head.

I'd try to find the owner. I've already got a laptop. I'd give it back even if I didn't though. If I couldn't find the owner, then I'd keep if of course.

If I couldn't find the owner, I would place .txt files with how-to on bomb making, install street&trips and place pushpins with suspicious locations like water supplies and nuclear plants, then finally include some rambling diary about death and destruction. Once it is dropped into a postbox, I'm pretty sure the rightful owner will be notified of it's location.

i would try my best to find the owner buecause often there are very important documents, files, etc... on a laptop that are more important that the laptop itself

I'd uhh, okay, yeah, I've never stole a laptop before as a kid, I swear.

I was a bad geek.

I also bought a 6,000 Apple laptop on my dad's credit card, and I used to burn anything in sight.

Edit: Yes, I returned it eventually and got in trouble for it..

16 then, 22 now. What a difference 6 years makes.

I'd turn it into the police. I don't know if it's true anymore but I think it used to be if something wasn't claimed in a certain period of time then it's yours.
