If you ever wear short sleeve dress shirts, stop.

Seriously, these are never acceptable. Please stop wearing them. There is a reason why Dwight wears them:

Do you think this guy ever wears a short sleeve dress shirt?

That's right, he doesn't.

Even this guy knows better; he rolls the sleeves up. And only on the weekend.

Love the OP's examples. Outside of the cargo pants, this is how I usually roll when the weather is nice.

Short sleeves and tie = can I tell you about your lord and savior Jehovah?

Short sleeve button up and no tie can be acceptable, but only with shorts if you ask me.

I hate cuffs on my wrists, so business casual to me = sleeves rolled up. It's just how I roll.

I've worn shirts like that to work in a business casual environment. I'd never think of wearing a tie with them.

And when I buy such short-sleeve dressy shirts, I make sure they don't look like a generic dress shirt with sleeves cut off. They should essentially be an entirely distinct style from standard dress shirts.

They look just fine as a shirt. Don't try and make it look like a dress shirt by adding a tie.

 Nothing wrong with this look at all.

Now, wearing a tie with a short sleeve button down shirt? That's just wrong.

I can wear jeans and t shirts but I wear casual slacks and short sleeve, button shirts.
Though I have been thinking of switching to long sleeve. It does look more professional but is uncomfortable.

I've never had a problem with cuffs, unless the shirt was too small.

Do polo shirts count? That's about as dressy as I get.
Polo are fine! It's really just the look that Dwight has. A dress shirt that is cut off right at the elbow and looks indistinguishable from a normal dress shirt save the fact it's cut 15" short.

I have a job where I can just wear a tshirt and jeans. Even shorts are acceptable. Screw dress shirts and dress pants. :p I find dress shirts can be so uncomfortable.

Actually it's funny, I can't stand long sleeves in general anymore. I've always worked in cold server rooms and cold offices and just got used to working in a cooler environment. If I wear long sleeves I start to sweat. It can be -40 out and I'll still wear a tshirt.

haha yeah short sleeve shirt AND a tie seem so odd to me but short sleeve shirts on a hot summer day? Who cares? I don't personally own/wear short sleeve dress shirts but I do roll them up when it's hot (plus I give off that "I've been working so damn hard - had to roll my sleeves up. You dig?" look).

I used to wear them in the summer when I was still working behind the scenes. Never wore it with a tie though. That does look incredibly nerdy.

otherwise, yeah... short-sleeve dress shirts are in pretty poor taste. if it's hot out, just wear a long-sleeve shirt and roll it up.

Did I wake up in an oppressive dictatorship or something? People should wear whatever the fuck they want.

So short sleeve button up shirts that are not a plain solid color are acceptable?

For a while, I agreed with OP... Nowadays the short-sleeve look is perfect. It's how you wear it. Just don't buy oversized short-sleeve dress shirts that go down to the elbows and puff out the back -- ****, don't buy anything oversized.

Michael Douglas looks ok wearing it as business casual... but pushing it though:

This is one I for the most part agree on. There are times when it can be pulled off, but most don't.
