I'm a practical person who already owns two practical vehicles so I think I'm going to apply the KISS rule here and keep it practical but with a hint of fun.

A 2025 Chevrolet Corvette Z06.

If the VW has had a Subaru motor swapped in already, that moves it up quite a bit in practicality, I got tired of the necessary maintenance on air-cooled VWs and sold mine on years ago.
 
Aircooled vdubs are a bit more maintenance, but it's all easy. Just have to do it. Power is the big thing, especially with the busses. You can't be in a hurry to do anything, and pay attention to wind reports, especially if you're gonna be driving over bridges :^D
 
Plug in hybrid diesel-electric super duty pickup truck with a 8 foot bed. Maybe this is something Edison can do at some point. I'm thinking something with like 100km range on battery before the diesel generator needs to kick on. For day to day use such as going to work or doing errands you could run on the battery only and diesel would only really be needed when going out of town or towing something really heavy.

Eh? Diesel doesn't really do start stop well.

Can you even afford to operate and Intrepid class starship? From my limited research that is like 400 people at like $3000 an hour adjusted for inflation. Unless you can dupe everyone into working for you for free...LOL yeah right.....

I'm thinking more like a shared adventure. I think I could find a crew willing to work for free just to see what's out there. Hell, I don't even have to own the ship. I'll work for someone else. The ship's just a tool. Working a ship and owning a ship is functionally equivalent, with the real goal being seeing the galaxy.

For me that's too big. I want a Rivian. With solar panels for a bed cover.

Yeah that part of the ST universe always made me smirk. Like I get it is an idealistic view of the future were self fulfillment for the betterment of humanity is the overall goal and that is fine but yeah.....a little to far fetched for me.

Having access to almost limitless energy is a very big dream. But it does solve material needs problem.

I don't know if it does. How does it solve material needs? What do you mean by material needs? Things like basic material needs such as clean water, a steady food supply, and basic electrical services or does it go beyond that? What is basic for you and is that different for someone else?

It is for sure a great thought experiment. I'm just throwing these thoughts out there so don't take it personally. I'm just genuinely curious.
