Well he is 60.... My mother, is simply showing tendencies at this point, nothing too dramatic as of yet. How does one get their parent(s) into a 'home' anyways? Aren't most elderly people resistant to this type of thing?

Whats makes it more sad is the fact that he felt so proud that he did 'research' on this yet never considered a car forum where people actually knew what they were talking about. And to make things worse, he didn't know what the drivetrain was until I told him.

Funny, my mother has driven one of these ES' as a rental car and even SHE could tell it was a 'junk' car, she absolutely hated it, the thing that got her the most was the fact that it felt cheap and didn't drive very well.

I'll have to ask him later if he took the car for a test drive prior to his purchase.

What makes you think they're 'gorgeous'? The interior may be cool but the styling sucks eggs.

GS430 is a beast.

LS is super luxurious and fast. It has a recliner in the back..

IS is small and sporty.

ES = Camry.

Lexus > * including infinity and acura

If I could buy a lexus, I'd probably buy something American and cheap and save my money. Lexus is overpriced rice. Luxury cars may be nice, but I work for the state of TN....do the math, I'd rather put my money toward something functional or fun....like condoms and booze, wait....I'm married. Like booze and porn.

BMW, or Porsche, or Cadillac (V-Series), here i come.

Learn about the IS and ES, they're $35k cars. What can you buy from BMW, Cadillac, or Porsche for that price? Not much. $ for $, the Lexus IS is the best deal out there. Price comparable cars don't even come CLOSE.

Well done cutting out the 'If I had the money' part, troll.

Overpriced rice?

Log off your computer.

They are not very overpriced when compared to other cars of the same caliber.

Lexus puts great quality into their cars.

The 1998 GS400 was the fastest 4dr sedan for while before the M5 dethroned it.

I love the title of this thread: "If you could buy a lexus..."

My friend, I have already bought a Lexus ('99 SC300).

I echo the sentiments of the majority of the posters regarding the quality of the models in their current lineup.

Option it out vs. a similar sized/equipped BMW or Benz and it's tens of thousands less. Plus a 5 year old Lexus has less problems than a year old Benz. The TCO on them is very very low compared to other luxury brands.

Sure they may lack radical designs like BMW, but to say that they are overpriced and for people with no taste is simply ridiculous.

07 ES350 - MSRP: $33,170 (No comparable BMW model)
07 IS350 - MSRP: $35,705
07 GS430 - MSRP: $52,375
07 LS460 - MSRP: $61,000-$71,000

-------------
BMW

07 3 series - MSRP: $32,400-$38,700
07 5 Series - MSRP: $43,500-$58,500
06 7 Series - MSRP: $71,800-$118,900

Doesn't look like they're overpriced to me. Seems the prices between each respective class are very competitive. Plus with Lexus you get quality and reliablity.

Sorry to diss the brand. I just haven't been much of a Toyota fan despite their high quality standard, etc. Rather than looking at the world as a global market, I care too much about the U.S. economy due to our loss of marketshare across most manufacturing industries. I don't doubt that Lexus not only provides a quality vehicle for the money, but quality service to back it up, otherwise they wouldn't have such a prestigious namebrand. However, I don't care for them, Infiniti, or Acura because they hide from their parent company to differentiate a very similar product.

Maybe one day I'll see the light, but I'll continue to drive my buick and be happy that I paid $13,000 for a $27995 car with only 18k miles on it and 1 year old. That's why I call Japanese premium-brand cars overpriced rice. US quality has near caught up to Japanese quality and the price difference is too severe for me to pay the extra cash. I do like their styling though.

I'm more concerned with how fast a car loses its value and unfortunately, Lexus holds its value too well for my uses. I want a car that's going to be reliable, and depreciate quickly because I buy used and want cheaper insurance.

recently Lexus prices have ticked up a bit, but only because demand went up so much due to their awesome cars. they are still a bargain compared to euro cars.

I test drove an LS460, IS350, and ES350 at the taste of Lexus event...they are all excellent cars, but the IS350 on the sport track was the most fun ride I ever had and well worth the 1 hour wait.

You fault a brand for their cars having high resale?

That's really lame. It's a free market. Cars sell for what people are willing to pay for them. People are willing to pay a premium for a used Lexus. They aren't for an Impala.

BTW-We've had a couple Lexus ES sedans as a loaner car while our IS is in for service and while it's a nice roomy car with reasonable power, they handle like boats and suffer from that affliction that all FWD cars suffer from...torque steer. Also, the brakes and handling on the IS are much much better than the ES.

On the plus side the ES has a cushier ride and less road noise comes through compared to the IS. The smaller all season tires on the ES will certainly last longer and cost less when it comes time to replace them as well.

We never really considered the ES though when we bought our IS. It was the Lexus IS, Infiniti G35 sedan or the Acura TL. Nothing else ever entered the equation. Mercedes was ruled out because of reliability issues and rapidly increasing price as you add options and BMW was ruled out because I think the new 3 series is one of the ugliest to ever carry the 3 moniker.
