Actually, you gotta understand that many of the great minds from a long time ago were able to discover and invent so many things simply because they were the only ones that were educated at that time, and had the opportunities to study, travel, and talk to so many of the other intelligentsia. For all we know, da Vinci might just be an average joe.
They certainly wouldn't know enough about modern science and it might take a long time for them to understand it.
I mean, I could imagine you bringing da Vinci back and the conversation might go like this
"What's that? Electromagnetic waves you say? And nuclear energy? Wha? Woah. DId you say plutonium? What's plutonium? And why are those machines blinking at me?!?! Relativity? Whose relative?"
