I can feel their loneliness when I speak to them though. I try and visit as much as possible, but I have my own life, and I may want to get married and maybe start a family with my current g/f soon.

Am I actually in a position to help? Should I be, they traumatized each other for almost two decades?

Stay out of it!! They're both grown-ups, and they're responsible for their own lives. In this day and age, they know help is available, and they can choose whether to take advantage of it.

The best thing you can do is live well, and keep your relationship with each as healthy as you possibly can. Your children can only benefit from having good grandparents, even if they're not perfect.

Sir Lancelot: To seek the Holy Grail.
Bridgekeeper: What... is your favourite colour?
Sir Lancelot: Blue.
Bridgekeeper: Go on. Off you go.
Sir Lancelot: Oh, thank you. Thank you very much.
Sir Robin: That's easy.

Did my mother really want to abort me like she told me all the time when I was growing up?

All the coat-hanger holes in your forehead weren't clue enough?;)

OP, I think you are thinking about all this more for your benefit than it may seem. Based on what I have read, I got the feeling that you are the one who needs to reconcile with what is reality. Your parents are divorced for a reason and they will never and can't ever fully explain the reasons why. You can't make two people be together, no matter how well you think you know them. In the end, they know themselves 100000000x better and their reasons for being apart may hurt you but that's life. If you care about your parents, you won't push them.

edit: My question would be "Why is my johnson sometimes longer, soft than it is hard?"
