I just want to know why my parents spent the last 15 years divorced, not willing to make up, but also choosing to spend their years alone now. Why? They have never remarried, or even dated. Both of them.

I also want to know what time the cows come home.

I know my dad and mom still love each other. They also cannot bear the differences that they have. My dad is 66 and my mom is 55 this year. They are both still alive and healthy. I can feel their loneliness when I speak to them though. I try and visit as much as possible, but I have my own life, and I may want to get married and maybe start a family with my current g/f soon.

Am I actually in a position to help? Should I be? they traumatized each other for almost two decades?

Your parents never entered into another relationship because they realize relationships take a ton of work and being single, unable to be hurt, and carefree is where it's at.

Cows come home at milking time, usually around 6pm. As their udders swell they become more uncomfortable and want to be milked as well as fed grain.
