i actually think that is a pretty nice looking car on the outside. granted the only pic i have seen in the one in the article, but non the less think it looks slick.

edit: looking at the rest of the pics in the article, the interior does not look terrible either.

The SHO has AWD and great performance numbers and while I haven't seen it person; it seems most people like the way it looks.

Wait, Ford is making a car that's mind numbingly boring to drive? The camry is like valium on wheels. Sure its reliable, but it is the least fun car to drive that I've ever owned.

<--- Owns a camry.

I guess I don't get it. The Taurus looks quite different (and better IMO) than the Camry. Whether it is worth the kind of money they are attempting to sell it for is another question entirely. I wouldn't buy one, but then again I wouldn't buy a Camry either (though I have great respect for Toyota's mechanical quality and reliability).

In fairness it's only the SHO that gets into the pricing stratosphere, and that badge is one that still gets respect based on the first-gen cars. As for why this car is a Taurus, what other successful midsize sedan model has Ford made within the memory of any of its target buyers?

What do you think the Camry was trying to do when it first entered the US market? That's right. Trying to beat the Taurus at it's game.

Camry is a great selling car. They've obviously done something right. Taurus's turn to emulate.

Actually, the Taurus competes with the Avalon, not the Camry. ;) The Fusion competes with the Camry. Full-size cars versus mid-size cars.

Sorry, the Camry was sold in the United States BEFORE the Taurus was introduced. If anything, it was the Taurus trying to beat the Camry and Accord at their game. Hell the Accord had already been BUILT in America for three years before the Taurus was introduced!

Details, people, DETAILS!

It is correct to say that a Camry was sold in the US before the Taurus existed, but it was hardly a competitor. The 1982-1986 Camry was a boxy, little car. It had a 102" wheelbase / 175 inch length and 4 cylinder engine with less than 100hp -- pretty much the 80s version of the modern Corolla. The 1986 Taurus had a 106" wheelbase / 188" length, a V6, and unique rounded styling.

As I recall, the Taurus was a huge hit for the first few years, and it's styling drastically influenced the whole auto industry. In the end, it was everyone else who was playing catch-up to ford. At least in appearance -- probably not in quality :)

The OP was more correct than you...

Yes the Taurus was the best selling car for many years and it has brand recognition. They killed off the Taurus and gave us the 500 then realized that the Taurus name still held some weight. Just remember guys that more competition ios always good for us.

There's a market for cars like that.

It maybe the least fun car that you've ever owned, but you DO own one, and that's what matters.

I know its a different size class but for $48K I'd much rather have a BMW 335i than a Taurus SHO. Similarly, there are several other cars I would consider at that price before looking at an SHO.

OMG THEY BOTH HAVE FOUR WHEELS!

:thumbsdown::roll:

Seriously, other than the commonalities shared by all sedans, they do not look alike and they are in different classes.

state you opinion, but please try to curb the sarcastic tone.

i see more similarities than dissimilarities in those two vehicles.
