Bullshit. When I started driving 10 years ago, gas was $1.10/gal. Could easily fill up most cars for a $20.

Gas was .90/gallon in '97, I used to fill my '82 Chevette for under $10.

Closest thing I found is this: http://www.ontariogasprices.com/Retail_Price_Chart.aspx but it only does Ontario average, not per city. Big cities like Toronto have really cheap gas so it kinda lowers the results. But even Toronto is no way near under a dollar per gallon. (1 gallon = 3.8 litres)

I just remember gas stations having to change all their signs after 9/11 because gas jumped from about 80 cents to over a dollar per litre and most signs only had 2 digits. That's about $3.8/gal. So $1/litre cost's 40 bucks to fill a 40 litre tank. Right now the gas is at $1.40 so it usually cost's me around $60-$70 to fill my car depending on if I redline it or not.

Also not sure if the taxes are included in the gas station displayed price, probably not, so add another 15% to the price.

Your gas probably has a high tax built in. It seems Europe has always has far more expensive gasoline than Stateside.

When I started driving, around 2003 or '04, I remember gas always being around 1.40 or 1.75/gallon. Somewhere in between or thereabouts. I remember bitching about $2/gallon. I'd kill for that price now.

the price of oil plummeted and countries like Venezuela panicked and started selling oil independent of OPEC. Cheap gas was the result.

When the Gulf War (Operation Desert Shield) started gas went through the roof.

Now with Premier McGuinty in charge of Ontario, we have even higher fuel prices due to excessive taxation on fuels. This then translates to higher prices of food stuffs due to increased transport costs.

Gas was .90/gallon in '97, I used to fill my '82 Chevette for under $10.

In the late 90's, oil went to $10.25 per barrel and gas in Lexington was $0.599 per gallon. In Corbin, KY, gas bottomed at $0.499 per gallon. Filled my Dodge Intrepid up in Corbin for $7.00 (14 gallons) during that time.
