I work in automotive...still...and 8 months ago, I felt like telling them to stick it.

Now....I love my job...which I currently still have after huge cuts.

Forgot to mention that I took a 5% pay cut (nearly another 20% pay cut but that was put on hold) as well as my pension being frozen (forever). Also, lost any overtime (forever - if I work it, I don't get paid). In June, about 4 to 5 jobs a week posted to Monster.com in or close to the field that I work in. It's been since Mid October since a decent job has been posted there. Pretty sad.

because we're so short staffed.

Admitting you're "short staffed" on teh internets is quite brave! 😛

Making a post that indicates that one's thoughts wandered, however briefly
to loki8481's ding a ling is even braver

It's literally a very tiny issue with me.

An issue, none the less

Apparently, you're obsessed with the issue as well. 😛

I'm glad I've got my job. Merit raises are going to be a joke but while most of our competitors are doing large layoffs we've held solid.

 😀

But my one-year review is coming up in something like two weeks! I hope they like me enough to keep me. I haven't gotten any signals that they're unhappy with me but I'm still nervous.

Self-employed, our company is growing and I'm trying like hell to keep it that way. No, ATOT doesn't fall under that "trying like hell" umbrella of effort.

Still employed.

Work for Fed. Gov. and we just got 4.78% pay raise effective last week so I can't complain at all. It's just mind boggling how many private sector jobs are being slashed every day. With fewer people hiring I wonder what all the people who've been laid off are going to do for money.

The boss goes to Florida quite a bit. If he is in town and doesn't like you; you usually get canned within minutes. Then his son hires another person until they piss off the boss and then we repeat the cycle.
Right now I have about 60 clients and the boss wants me at about 125. He told me I'm probably gonna snap at about 80 and then have to decide to quit or work through the mental hurdle. I'm busy and don't see slowing down unless I choose.

Well, I am currently employed and fairly happy as of late. But the management pissed me off back in November so I started looking.

Interviewed with another utility a few weeks ago and got an offer. I am in the process of getting my physical, drug screen, and background check back.

Once that happens I will be more than happy to walk away from my current job and management.

I'm not presently employed at a normal job, but it's a paid internship. The owner of the company does seem like he might be willing to keep me with the company. I think I got an impromptu interview on Wednesday. 🙂

Did you swallow?

😉
Maybe.

Why, can you make a bigger offer? 😉

From what I've heard, probably not.

Lost my job at the university because of funding slashes. I just got a new job with a local textbook company working in tech support... not only that, but they offered me $12.50/hr... but my friend who also works there (for 6 months now) only makes $10/hr. Apparently the hiring manager really liked my work history and has high expectations for me. I'm not sure if I should be afraid or not😕

I'm still employed and very happy for that. The hiring is probably way down but I think there is still some. I got a bonus and nice raise at the end of 2008. Still on track for a merit raise in a few months. No cutbacks yet on the excellent 401k match or other benefits.

So it seems okay here, at least for now. I hope they make it through without major layoffs or cutbacks.
