Get back to me after the Texas Legislature cuts funding for higher ed and institutes a tution freeze. If that happens I'll know my fate some time in July. State Universities are going to have to layoff a lot of people if it the above happens. Probably ~10k state wide.

Higher ed is always the first thing to get cut by the Texas Legislature 🙁

I got a 15 cent raise at my new temp assignment that lasts for 2 weeks... getting tired though cause I applied for a bunch of better stuff last weekend.

got $3k bonus over my base salary for my services when I worked overseas (quite literally, at the sea) for all of December. More to come in 2009 as well, since, well, we lost a staff member, so I've actually been overworked (still @ work at the moment...). If this keeps up, hopefully I can finally get a decent condo and stop renting 🙂 *crosses fingers*

Still employed here with good future ahead (possible promotion coming up). Though they are "restructuring" so everyone is kind of uptight atm.

edit: oh and I got my raise on my last pay check. (raise every 6 months). I can't complain about work that's for sure. 😀

Every job that I interviewed at and got denied ended up laying off people....My job says we are not laying off people and that we have enough work for the next 2 years. I am very grateful. Might not be my dream job, but I have a job.

Cheers

Yes, aware of what I have, but I always have been, though not quite as much, I suppose.
I had to flat out tell one co-worker that they could easily lay us off and bring in 26 yr olds with advanced degrees for 1/3 less than what we're earning and that I was grateful to still be working and can/will adapt and do so cheerfully.

I will say one thing, I'm motivated now to either return to school or to try to start my own gig on the side.
If what you said is true about 26 year olds you should get back to school sooner rather than later!
Work for Fed. Gov. and we just got 4.78% pay raise effective last week so I can't complain at all. It's just mind boggling how many private sector jobs are being slashed every day. With fewer people hiring I wonder what all the people who've been laid off are going to do for money.
Mind boggling is that gov is giving pay raises. Unless you work for some super duper important agency.
