If your wife starts flaunting camel toe, GET OUT! :p

-----

I think it's a good plan. And you can rent the trailer out and make a few bucks on the side too... :D

Yep, you're crazy. Your neighbors are going to be worse and you're going to regret it..

Our current neighbors are literally THE WORST people in my town. They would be living in a trailer if it weren't for the fact the mother was given the house by her parents. Their wood siding is so broken down they have birds living in it. Earlier this year the kids stold a propane tank and were igniting glass jars of it, and managed to catch a 3 year old's pants on fire and their basement. They use blankets to cover their windows, and if you've ever seen through the windows you would know it needs condemnded. The mother doesn't work and uses nothing but obscenity when forming sentences. The kids got a few old riding lawnmowers last winter, and were riding them all over the place, and fell into our new wire fence. The kids jump on their pogostick on the front sidewalk at 11pm at night. etc. etc. etc.

Call th city and report them. If they don't bring it up to code, wither the city will and send them a bill or they will close it.

And call the cops on the kids, period.

In every scenario where cops or firefigheters needed to be involved, they were. It's all the in between irritations that is adding up - you can't have your house taken away for being rude.

Sometimes you got to chalk it up that you don't fit in the neighborhood and move...calling the cops everyday is just asking to cause more problems. This is one of those instances (esp the birds living in the siding) where a HOA agreement is your friend.

However, many / most trailer parks are going to be even worse...no offense to those living in them, I considered it too...however with any cheap place to live that has multiple bedrooms, you will have people craming 10 kids into a 2 room place as they struggle to buy the nicest place they can afford for their kids.

I wanted to buy another house, but he market has everyone shopping for a 'payment' instead of thinking what the homes are really worth. Everything is so artifically inflated here I am waiting for the market to adjust....when a used home of inferior construction and size is selling for the same price as a new home that's actually built better and on more property and even has Central Air then something is wrong.....

So I looked around for decent rentals that weren't going to be a long term home replacement (read that as a cheap place to live ;))....almost every place I saw that was reasonably priced was 1) in the worst possible neighborhood, 2) falling apart 3) had 50 million kids zoning around not playing but checking out the car you pulled up in and everything else....one place actually had armed security in the daytime patrolling....it seemed nice, but when you have armed guards during the day there is a problem.

I found a nice 4 unit place about 1 mile from the intercoastal....two 1 bedrooms, and two 2 bedroom places....the rules here are no more than 2 people in the 1 bedroom and must be married and no more than 3 people living in the 2 bedrooms and only a married couple and a roommate or a kid....or two partners without roommates.

There were many landlords that asked how many children right off the bat. I'd look for a place like that. Sure my landlord may be percieved as anal, but I got a good feel for the guy and knew he would not have problems with my type of lifestyle, as a matter of fact he even mentioned one week after we paid for our second month's rent that he'd have no problem with us getting a cat or two or a puppy.

If parents would control their kids instead of letting them roam free until 2-3am, it would be better for everyone. Anytime I drive out to the store late anymore I see grade school kids running around or riding their bikes on school nights after midnight...not tons of kids but even one is too many out that late.

If we sold our house and got a trailer...
I would do it in a heartbeat!
Check your local zoning laws, because I know that you can put a trailer on your own property in at least some parts of PA.

I've once heard that "good fences ... make for good neighbors." I think this is quite a true statement.

Not sure how the zoning is in your area but a lot of places will allow you to use a temporary building (trailer house) to be put on the land you will build on for some amount of time while the construction takes place. Just dig a little for the foundation on the new building every week or so will keep you off the hook of the zoning board.

If the trailer park screens the people coming in, it can't be that bad.

Not that most people are... But i am betting that in a trailor park you are going to have worse neighbors and in a upscale neighborhood...

Your Networth would not go up as fast as you think by going to Trailer. Trailers do not go up in value like a permanent home can.

You must have moved into a subdivision. I would never move into a subdivision again either.

We have a shared driveway. And we had a fence. The kids toppled their riding lawnmower into it.

Two room apartments are going for about $550 around here. Lot rent + buying the trailer will be less than $300.

No we're on main street. To the left of us are the worst of the town, to right of us are decent families. Then farther down are some bad families again. Our backyard is the meeting point for the "juvenile highway". :(

No reason to assume that. Sounds like his current neighbor's kids are brats..

sometimes people with lower incomes are decent people and parents.

You could rent out your house and put that money on your payment then rent a nice apartment. You wouldn't be saving up any money but you would be in a more enjoyable situation and then when you are ready to build your house you could sell it and have that as a downpayment.

I say go for it.

I'm with others that kinda ask if you want to sell your house though. Why not rent it out? You could use it to build your assets even more, while creating even more cash flow in the form of rent eventually. Although this plan would change things significantly(you probably would only break even on the rent flow/house payments for a while).

I know next to nothing about financial stuff though, so take it with a grain of salt ;)

I also agree with others that say to put the trailer on the land you want.

I imagine jumping into this scenario, you would have to sell your house though.

That's the truth right there. I know some people who have taken some pretty bad beatings just because they wanted out.

Mmmm. Skidshacks.

I'd consider renting if it's only for a couple years. If you go through an agent your going to end up paying commisions again and quite likely end up losing cash, especially on a Tornado Magnet being that they generally depreciate as opposed to a stick house which appreciates. I wouldn't recomend it.

It's only a rollercoaster if I'm riding it. Right now this is just thoughts I'm compiling - I'd prefer to keep all of the different scenarios seperated with their own threads as to focus on the topic. That's why you have me asking about refinancing, building, moving, living in a box, etc.

nah, screw that. get a dog and have it "trained to kill"...then post 15 "beware of dog. dog will attack" signs around your house. that way, anyone tries to go for the trees, u have a few body parts to remind u of the incident ;)

Update:

We totalled out our home expenses and compared them to what it would be in a trailer. It will be about a $335 savings per month, which is $83.75 per week. That is $4020 per year... The comparision includes mortgage/rent/property tax and utilities.

I'm thinking that isn't a lot... it doesn't really seem like it is going to be worth it now. We're probably better off just restricting our spending and trimming costs in our utilities... time to start another thread...
