If we found out aliens sorta like us existed would your life change?

I've always wonder what's out there. and i believe there are aliens out there. But human nature is one of aggression. If we do somehow fix all our probs here, and become a space faring race, we'll find someting out there to fight over. Beliefs, resources(most likely this one)

Of course my life would change. When the entire population of planet Earth goes to war with "others" from "out there" everybody's life would change. Do you really believe that the encounter would be peaceful?

What exactly does sorta like us mean? Some nice, some mean? Invariably someone on their planet (or ours) would claim the other is making WMD and insist on the right for pre-emption against a society with a clear history of aggression. If they are too much like us it's only a matter of time before we would find something to fight over.

Don't we already know that they exist? Come to think of it, if they stumbled upon our planet and turned on CNN, they would probably be the ones in panic.

It would probably unite Earth, but unfortunalely because of fear. A massive worldwide military buildup would follow to counter the menace (because unknown is always dangerous and threatening), and maybe a war would be fought. The thing is, the Aliens would find us would probably not be hostile, but much more advanced than us...

If WE find a lifeform though, we would probably unite, but to a lesser extend and be peaceful with the Aliens. The problem is that, if they are intelligent lifeforms (and not just cells), THEY would be afraid and build a defense against us.
