If voting were mandatory, who do you think would win the election?

Pretend that it was the law that all people over 18 in the US w/o felony convictions were required by law to vote, or face a $500 fine.

Who do you think would win the election?

Kerry, registered Democrats outnumber registered Republicans by a good deal. This assumes that a majority vote along party lines.

Probably GWB. 🙁

I woudl think the opposite. Poor people and young people would all be forced to vote.

Oh Jesus...

Before the 2000 Election, one of the local news stations was interviewing some unsavory people in the ghetto, and one woman said "I be votin' for Gore, because he gonna give me free money!"

Probably Kerry, yeah. Actually, special interest parties would probably see a huge vote increase, though probably not nearly enough in most cases.

I thought it was common knowledge, or at least common urban myth, that the number of liberals in the country far outweight the number of conservatives, but the conservatives have a much higher turnout each election.

well, if you subtract the rampant voter fraud for kerry, i'd say it'd be pretty even, but kerry would probably win. i've been noticing that stupidity is more the rule than the exception.

Kerry for sure. B/c there are more poor, lazy democrats who don't vote than there are poor, lazy republicans who don't vote.

Nader....a majority of non-voters this year are doing so because they can't see anything good wiht either candidate...thus vote for the guy who's opinion goes poratically unheard and the only other choice after the 2 politicians.

If it was forced.. it would be a bit.. screwed up. Nader messed up the election with gore/bush, imagine all the youngins who dont give a flyin fvck and put him down?

I think Chuck Norris would be an amazing pres though

Sad but true, Democrats are the party that throws more (of my) bread to the "victims of society," while the Republicans ship them off to Iraq.

This is a tough election year for figuring out the lesser evil. I can see why people put on the brain slug and relax into comfy blind loyalty to one party or the other.

Chuck Norris fans scare me. The man has zero tallent as an actor and just writes into his show, any excuse for a roundhouse.

I love how R and Ds think thier votes somehow are more important than indipendent party voters. The fact that you wrote that just shows what's wrong with America. You see, its the youngins country too, not just the R and D's.

I'll refresh your memory on Constitutional Ammendments:

Amendment XV
The right of citizens of the United States to vote shall not be denied or abridged by the United States or by any state on account of race, color, or previous condition of servitude. The Congress shall have power to enforce this article by appropriate legislation.

Amendment XIX
The right of citizens of the United States to vote shall not be denied or abridged by the United States or by any state on account of sex. Congress shall have power to enforce this article by appropriate legislation.

Amendment XXVI
The right of citizens of the United States, who are 18 years of age or older, to vote, shall not be denied or abridged by the United States or any state on account of age.

So even though you may not like the youngins, the women folk, or the dark skins, they still can vote and rightfully so.
