If there were no speed limits on the open road...

I would get terrible fuel mileage and my drive home at 3am would be much faster.

I wouldn't be dead, but it would be nice to let my turbo breathe from time to time.. :p

But what competition would cops have then if they don't try to hand out the most speeding tickets?

a lot of times, I'll go under speed limits even on residential roads or in bad weather.

only time I really speed is if I'm on a long open road by myself (re: no potential speed traps for cops to hide in)

At least half the roads I drive on have a speed limit of 60mph, and I don't get up to 60 most of the time on them.
Just because there's a speed limit doesn't mean there's a speed target. I wouldn't want to even get to the speed limit in a lot of places because it just doesn't make sense from a safety point of view.

When I had my SUV I started feeling uncomfortable around 90. I could feel the car slipping a bit (granted it wasn't the best roads).

My Maxima on nice highways... I might go 120? Not sure.

We have the opposite here..there's a road that used to be a 50mph zone - they widened the road and dropped the limit to 40. 50-60 is normal traffic speed...

I think I'd avoid every stop sign... or else make sure I come to a complete stop for 5 seconds - just to be sure. :p

Regardless of speed limit, I tend to go with traffic - unless traffic is going under the speed limit, then I tend to get agitated and maneuver out of that pack of traffic if at all possible.

On some highways, there can be a lot of traffic and most of it is going 80mph on a 65mph road. If I go all that much faster, not only do I feel like I am asking for an instant ticket, I also feel like something might go in my truck. Notably, the fuel. :p
Well... I've had the truck up to 95 before I start feeling like it isn't a good idea. It's not the max, but it would take awhile to get going greater speeds. However, it's the nature of it being a RWD Dakota. Very light on the wheels with power, and it being a V6 and the engine cranks so hard that you can feel serious vibration in the steering wheel. Makes me start wondering if it's a good idea to be pushing her like that. :(

yep. I know I don't feel uncomfortable from the speed in my Dakota, rather... the feel of the handling and stability at those speeds.

Sadly the only other car I've owned was a '94 Sundance - that car strained like mad at 85-90, but didn't give me any of the same sense of adrenaline as my truck... the adrenaline coming from the sense of a lot less control.

90mph is about my top speed regardless of limit. Get out on the highway in the middle of nowhere, and just cruise. There were times I'd pass the same person a few times going to the mountains on paddling trips. I'd make a couple bathroom/food breaks, and pass the same people over and over :^D

You'll get killed by some other idiot within a week. Remember this is America, 90% of the population shouldn't be driving in the 1st place.

I'd probably drive little different than I do now.

I would probably burn way too much gas, I already only get about 10 MPG on premium going the speed limit...

I'm already scared of how people drive at 65. If people could drive whatever speed they wanted... God help us all.

Try driving in India. That figure would be the indisputable truth and not mere hyperbole. Rumor has it a traffic rulebook exists. They're still looking. So although we don't have speed limits, the roads (potholes the size of basketballs), econoboxes and one billion people fighting for room are collectively keeping everyone alive.

I occasionally like to let loose, usually in the hours between midnight and sunrise. Makes up for all the pent up rage.

I just hope I never hit a cow. :Q

I wouldn't drive that fast on our highways cus our highways suck. The Autoban is one of the safest highways in the world cus of the way it's built.

Would you eat it? Wouldnt it be a sin to let some good cow meat go to waste?
