if the south had won the Civil War....

this.

The U.S. going to war with the south, and making it chiefly about slavery, was the only thing keeping the Brits out of the mess. While the Brits would love to claim the territory again, fighting over slavery was kind of something in common with the Brits since they basically completely abolished the practice all over their empire at that point. And they respected that, and also conveniently bought into Lincoln's entire ruse.

Why they didn't come and kick both our asses during that time is beyond me. Maybe they cared less for colonies in general at that point in time, or maybe they realized they still hadn't figured out a way to actually manage warfare across the ocean. Considering under normal circumstances they should have easily decimated us in both wars, we got very lucky they had a knack for making terrible management and policy decisions.

Britain, at the time, was going through a some pretty tough agricultural issues. The US was providing them with something like 40% of their crops at the time of the civil war. For them to enter a conflict with the US would have almost surely meant famine throughout (While they might have been able to do it, they wouldn't have been able to do it within a year or less, and without significant workforce and agricultural loss.)

Sure, we might say that they had noble causes for not interfering, I tend to think they were looking after their own interests. Had the war been over some other issue, I believe Britain would have been just as indifferent. US stability was much more important to them then expanding their territory, and interfering for either side would have really hurt their bottom line.

The fact that they sided more with the north then the south had more to do with the fact that the north provided them with the a large portion of their food stuffs. The south, on the other hand, gave them cotton, something they had little need and had ample supply.

I think New Orleans is an island unto itself, kinda like Austin.

drive a mile out from either city and you're in inbred, retard, backwards, racist, religious bigot country.

Definitely not true.

A large portion of South LA extending much further than a mile from N.O. has a radically different feel from northern (more backwards) LA.

I still do not agree with this. The Gulf Coast of Mississippi is fun and pretty open. Biloxi and Gulfport. The Panhandle of Florida. I can name several cities in Louisiana that are cool. Mandeville, Hammond, Lafayette, Baton Rouge, Shreveport, Lake Charles. None of these are inbred, retard, backwards or racist. I think its an unfair generalization.

Don't contradict yourself.

What about the positives of Louisiana and the South in general? Friendly people

Definitely a lie. The south is a lot less friendly than a lot of places, and the type of southern environments were they do act courteously (like Tennessee), you can tell it is simply an act. They are really judging you with the full fury of GOD inside their head.

great food

Fuck yeah. You have a point here.

beautiful women (much hotter than the North)
What? No! Southern women are ugly, fat, and often dumb.

great weather
OMFG YOU LIAR HUMIDITY + HEAT = ME DRENCHED IN SWEAT 2 SECONDS AFTER I GO OUTSIDE

and low cost of living.
Simply because nobody wants to live there...
I am sure a dumpster would have a low cost of living too 😉

I can't say for every city in the North and Midwest, but from what I have seen they have unfriendly people, dog ugly women, bland food, and crappy weather. And these may be generalizations as well...I understand this. I am just saying it goes both ways.

Midwest has some of the best weather. West coast has some of the best women and is generally friendlier than the South. The south has upperhand on food, but it also has the upperhand on obesity, so...

The South for sure has some positives (food, beautiful country) but I love Michigan. The people here are so great. Except for our 4-5 months of winter, the weather is great. Pretty much any culture you could imagine can be found here and we welcome them all. Some people who are new around here get offended because we are curious and ask questions. I find other cultures very interesting and like to learn. I've had some really great conversations with Middle Eastern people even though our beliefs are polar opposites.

Once the unions get ran out of here, I think it will be nearly perfect. Jenny has screwed the economy up enough that we shouldn't have to worry about having a dem in office for a long time. Things really are looking up!

then we people in the north would be far richer. supporting our southern failures cost us a fortune the last 150 years. in fact, cutting them loose is still an option as far as I am concerned.
it would be fun to see toyota, etc close up in the south when we put import restrictions on goods from the south. let toyota open a factory in detroit if they want to sell to the north.

No I think if the South would have won, then Columbus would have never discovered Australia.

Australia was discovered during the 40s when we fought the Japanese and Chinese in WW2. It was used as a strategic staging area by the Allies to launch a massive land attack from the south up into mainland China.

Wrong.

China was discovered in 1742 during the war of 1812. If we had just nuked Hanoi, then the slaves would have been freed 150 years earlier than they were.

Open a history book every now and then, or GTFO.

no way you are being serious....is there???

I'm confused

You are frigging backwards. West coast owns the Midwest in weather.
I was all over LA last year. Had a great time. Weather was hot, but it wasn't icky as I thought. Sometimes it was refreshing.
There were tons of places I thought about moving to if I could find a job out there. And yes, hot women were all over the place.
