65" but why get a DLP?

I couldn't spend good money on anything but a decent LCD.

TV's are something people tend to keep for such a long time and RPTV's just get out of alignment, get dust on the projection components which diminishes clarity over time, have overscan issues, have expensive bulbs that burn out and need replacing, have a much larger footprint, put out more heat, use more energy.

All the negatives factored into any RPTV should easily make anyone considering one forget about it and just get an LCD instead.

Hardcore A/V enthusiast will rave about RPTV's and DLP's but unless you're going to be cracking open your TV and doing adjustments and cleanings yourself (which can render your TV useless if you screw up) and are comfortable with going into the advanced programing menus (hidden usually and can easily screw things up if you don't know what you're doing) then it's all points that don't apply to by far the vast majority of people that just want a TV that looks great the day they get it to the day the replace it.

What did you end up getting?

For me, I'd choose the 60". Both TVs will be about 3.5 times the screen area that you already have. The 60" will be slightly less than 3.5x and the 65" will be slightly more than 3.5x. Both would be a big jump up in size. Thus, both would make you equally happy size wise. By that I mean I highly doubt you'll be happy with 60" but really happy with 65". Nope, you'll be really happy with both.

But he 65" is more expensive, could be dimmer, and would have fewer pixels per inch (more grainy feel). If you sit far enough away, you might not notice it being grainy, but I certainly hate when I see things grainy (even with HDTV, if you get the screen big enough, it looks grainy to me).

So, you won't notice the positives of a 65" TV but you will likely feel the negatives for getting the 65" TV. If you currently had a 40"+ TV, I'd say get 65", but since your current TV is so small, 60" is the right way to go. Save the $200 and get a nicer TV down the line when better technology comes along.

65. Why? because sooner or later you'd see someone who bought the 65" and you'll wish you hadn't saved the bit extra

Fixed width TV's... no thanks.

I now have a 5th projector in my house (only 2 are permanently set up, 1 is for traveling, the other 2 are for "Halo Day" 4 xbox gaming). I will never go back to a fixed size.

To the DLP naysayers, we've had our 50" Samsung for 2.5 years and love it. The only minor issue I have is not the black levels, but rather the "rainbow effect" when the screen is nearly completely white. This makes some angles during hockey games annoying at times.

It looks like bulbs sell for around $150 for this model, so I should prolly grab one soon.

Oh and get the 65". They had a 55" model we would have bought except for the fact that we'd already purchased the tv stand for it, which was too small.

What did you end up getting?

I ended up getting the 60" DLP. However, I was able to try the 65" for one night due to a shipping error. I must say that I can easily tell the size difference between the 60 and 65. As far as picture brightness, I really didn't notice any significant difference between the two. Either way, I'm happy with my purchase.
