If Texas and California fought a war, who wins?

California has a huge tech sector and an aerospace industry, but Texas has oil and gumption. Lots of gumption.

Let's assume the federal government *and* military bases don't intervene. States are all neutral. They can provide material assistance, but no troops or weapons.

How does this go down, in your best estimation?

Are you taking out the existing federal military in each of those states or leaving them for use by their respective states?

Didn't we already have this thread a couple of years ago?

California has a bigger population
California has more air force bases
California has more navy bases
California has more army bases

This is a very one sided battle.

Uh... How would California not win? Advantages in manpower, industry, agriculture, technology, trade, economic scale...

If you remove the US Federal military Texas wins as they have their own military and California does not.

Federal military doesn't factor into the equation. Only considering whatever powers are under each state's respective governors.

On top of California's intrinsic advantages, one has to count AZ's resources as well. We're so butt buddy with California on just about everything that we'd almost certainly throw down alongside them against Texas.

Texas, on the other hand, has no friends. Even Oklahoma hates them.

With no federal support/aid/forces Texas wins hands down.

We have our own armed forces, and a bunch of rednecks.

This is a very one sided battle.

california has no strategic bombers and no active army divisions. so, no, not really.

So did the Old South. Volunteer militias and rednecks can throw a few haymakers, but what happens when Tesla and SpaceX start rolling robots and armored vehicles off their factories?

btw, it depends on where this battle fought. Lots of fatties in Texas and they wouldn't be able to get past the Sierras if they have to come into CA; and it's really damn hilly in the rest of the state.

I expect the fight would have to be in CA because we know the hippies won't leave to fight. :p

Uh... How would California not win?

Easy. TX is the only state with it's own power grid. CA imports a good chunk of electrical power so all TX need do is cut 'em off.

Advantages in manpower, industry, agriculture, technology, trade, economic scale...

I'll bet on TX "manpower" in a fight any day over that of CA.

Industry? Is CA going to defeat TX with Ipads and scented candles?

Agriculture? Texans will be eating steak (and fish and shrimp). Otherwise they are located in the SE, the breadbasket of the USA. They can get what they need from the SE states quite easily.

Trade? What kind? There are more 4X the number of military contractors located just to the East of TX than located in CA.

Also, TX has better access to the Atlantic.

TX has more than twice the oil refining capacity of CA.

CA has a lot to offer (weather, beaches, mountains, and cuisine), but little, IMO, helpful in a war.
