If people are allowed smokebreaks, should non-smokers be allowed some sort of break?

For instance, most of the people where I work smoke and take smokebreaks throughout the day. Why can't I as a non-smoker take a break, say a nap-break during the day to compensate for this?

i've wondered that myself....but theres nothing to stop you from taking a walk outside and just chilling...

and dude...its compensate...🙂

They're called coffee breaks. 😛

Actually, we have an hour of breaks total at my workplace, and people still take extra breaks for smoking.

Technically the smokers are supposed to only get two short breaks and one lunch like everyone else. Just that they start out by bending the rules, supposedly taking two very short morning breaks and two very short afternoon breaks, then it turns into 4 long breaks, etc etc...

But we're all on Salary here so if you do your job and your manager is happy with your performance than good for them. Same for me.

Same thing with Parents, should they get more sickdays compared to Single folks / no kids families? Probably not, but, that's just how it is. If you don't like that, have kids so you can take days off to pick them up from school and go to the doctor, etc. 😛

What about all those co-workers who surf the net all day... you know who I'm -- oh, wait... never mind.

Enough complaining, back to work.

If the people going to smoke aren't counting the time spent smoking against their allotted break time, then yes, non-smokers should be allowed to take breaks equal in time to the time the smokers spend outside. If the smokers are counting the time against their break time and everyone gets the same total amount of break time, no, non-smokers shouldn't get extra time.

An old co-worker (Bob) had a great solution for the person we worked with that always seemed to need extra smoke breaks. We were all doing system support.

The smoker would take breaks on a regular schedule. So Bob would wait until the smoker headed outside, then he would ask the boss a question that he knew the boss would need to ask the smoker about. Eventually the boss came to believe that the smoker was always smoking, since Bob kept giving the boss reasons to look for him when Bob knew he'd be outside.

After a while, the smoker got canned.

Sometimes I will go hang with the smokers and chat for a few minutes. Other times I will take a walk around the perimeter of the parking lot. One lap is 1/2 mile.

Yeah, some people work just to get others fired like that it seems. Instead of putting time into work, they put time into finding ways to piss people off or get them fired.
