If only the cops had hugged her

I feel for this guy for losing his wife, really I do. But what was he thinking? I hope he framed this in a larger context of "we need compassion" rather than "this wasn't her fault". A hug from the police would have saved her from her demons?

Link

""If the airline or the police authorities had treated Carol with some modicum of sensitivity and grace, or one single person at that airport had put an arm around her shoulder, sat her down and given her some protection, she might still be with us today,"

- Phoenix to Tuscon is about a 2 hour drive. Why didn't he or another family member or friend drive her to rehab? She might still be with us today...(edit- she was on a layover, so driving wasn't an option. She was from NY).
- If he or another family member or friend had cared enough to fly with her to Tuscon, she might still be with us today...
- If she wasn't a drunk psycho, she might still be with us today...

There's been no evidence that she was mentally ill or anything, just an out of control drunk. Drunks kill themselves all the time, on train tracks, in cars, etc. This time one did by strangling herself with handcuffs. Sorry for your loss man, but it's not the police/airports fault in any way, shape or form.

My feelings are pretty much the same, I've seen the video and unless there is some serious context missing, the woman just started going nuts for no reason.

I'm still having a hard time grasping how someone could end up strangling themselves with handcuffs like that, but at the same time I don't think any foul play is at work here.

What is he thinking? I lost my wife. Maybe someone could have done something different. It's called grief.

That said, I'm sure the airline people tried to be courteous and reasonable. She didn't get the answer she wanted and she flipped out. That doesn't make the husband any less likely to ask "why".

I understand grief, asking why. But why make those statements, then release the eulogy to CNN? I question the motives...but maybe CNN is trying to manufacture a story, hard to say without the full text of the eulogy.

What's the matter with you Hay? This goof ball is showing all the signs of a liberal nut case who thinks compassion or understanding ever solved anything. You go into an airport drunk and act up, well you're just asking to die. You've got to stop this liberal drift in its tracks. The world is much too dangerous a place for understanding. Handcuffs are the answer.

I suggest you go into law enforcement. Let us know how it works out for you.

Did they ever figure out how she was able to strangle herself with the cuffs or have they changed that story?

It's because the Law is always enforced that I work so hard to free you from your mental prison. Your prison is the pathetic limitations imposed by the little you know. Yours is a prison whose effectiveness is defined by its invisibility. I can see in your dark. I know your hate for those who are not similarly limited. You can bark like the hounds of hell but I been through your door.

He who builds a prison also makes a key.

He may or may not file. Depending on what happened, if I were in his shoes I might sue, I don't think anyone really knows how what happened happened. I would hope someone is looking into this rather than just signing a death certificate. Too many unknowns.

Nothing is unknown to those with the capacity to alsurmise. How else do I see a mad man every time I look at a Rorschach.

Apparently they cuffed her to a desk and she somehow got tangled up trying to slither out of her bonds.

Are you so daft you think CNN is manufacturing a story? you truly don't see a story here?

Alcoholic woman on her way to treatment misses her plane by one fricking minute and ends up dead as a result???

I don't understand at all why it would be a "security breach" to let her on the next plane when a man offered her his seat???

Eh, I see it as factually different than you apparently. A drunk woman misses her plane by one fricking minute, starts to go apeshit, gets arrested, continues to go apeshit and figures out a way to strangle herself in a holding cell. Darwin strikes again.

Manufacturing is probably a wrong word - sensationalizing is more appropriate.

As to the security breach rule, that doesn't make sense either. But the world is full of strange laws. Most people don't go apeshit every time we are inconvenienced.

Lat thing I heard was the two coroners (I guess was from the police, the other the family) were vehemently disagreeing with each other as to how this happened.

Otherwise, the guy is in grief, so I cut him some slck now. I don't think much of the media and their habit of jumping in the face of grieving family members and trying to get (sensational) remarks from them for ratings etc.

Put an arm around her? She was disturbed and irrational, no way to really tell how she would have responded to a stranger doing that.

Oh, they have desks in detention cells now? Is the story changing now? When will they admit handcuffing her in a restrained position out of spite? Or dead already, a miss-applied choke hold to quite the screaming bitch down?

I've never seen "desk", I've seen "bench". Nice speculation of police brutality with no evidence on your part however :cookie: Looks like you make up stories as you go along too...

It's really inappropriate to suggest murder or police brutality without a single shred of evidence to support it. Until some evidence comes out to support your inferred allegations, it's downright offensive.

In my vast experience (and it's F-ing vast), when the police get involved, people die. The end.

Was she drunk? Sure probably. Was she cussing & screaming? Sure probably. Did she die as a direct result of being arrested by the police? Absolutely.

Flame away...

We don't know that she was drunk, now do we. Just because she was alcoholic doesn't mean she was drunk?? She might have been, but she might not have been, at this point we don't know so why assume she was?

She was apprantely calm until they refused to let her on the second flight. That's the question I have, why was it a security breach to let her on that flight?
