Huh?? He got 70% of the vote. Alan Keyes got 27%. Thats over 2x the number of votes of the competition. That wouldn't usually be considered 'barely elected'.

But you're probably one of those who felt GWB had a mandate after his huge wins in 2000 and 2004, right?

Against Alan Keyes a spitoon would win in an anti-tobacco state.---now Alan Keyes---there is a man with a long track record of losing.

08 is a long way off---and lots of events will play out---Obama should weather well---but way too early to tell.

Ugh, I have a problem with anybody committing to any candidate two years before a race. To say you were certainly not vote for him, or certainly vote for him, means you'd make this choice regardless of his competition. Although I know a lot of people look at the letter next to the name in order to make their decision, wouldn't it be nice to at least know something about him and who he'd be running against? Do the records of the candidates and their stances actually matter anymore?

Not everyone in this thread is like this, but this is what I see...
Left-leaning poster - "he's got charisma and is a great speaker, he'd have my vote."
Right-leaning poster - "he's a democrat, so no and no."

All I know is that he's a good speaker and has some charisma. He's also made some efforts to reach out to the other side. That's great and all, but I'll wait until learning more about him and see his opponent if he does intend to run for president.
