That's to be expected, since 1280x800 divides the native resolution perfectly and doesn't require any interpolation.
Exactly, that was a major advantage with UXGA as well (1600x1200), as you can easily choose the common resolution of 800x600 and get excellent results. Except 800x600 (or even 960x600 if you're using WUXGA) leaves a little to be desired - even with AA, whereas 1280x800 is still pretty respectable even for the pickiest gamers.
I guess it'd be pretty sweet to have a WQUXGA display (3840x2400), you could scale down to 1920x1200 if your video card (or, more likely, card
s) couldn't handle the native res
