If God does exist, why doesn't he show up in recent two centuries?

Whats with all the God threads today? How do you know that God hasn't shown up in the last 2 centuries? Hitler was defeated wasn't he? Perhaps God has shown up, but people have just not taken notice and attributed his appearance to other things.

Are there any reliable (non-biased) sources showing us that any god from any religion ever showed up or made its presence clear in some other way?

There are none. Based on what we know, we can only conclude that no supernatural beings exist or can communicate with any living being inside this universe.

Hitler's god was stronger than the Jewish god for some time, then the god of the Allied forces crushed Hitler's god, so Hitler lost.

Nah, on second thought, I don't think any gods were involved.

perhaps the "supernatural beings" choose not to communicate with any species in this "universe" which we haven't even explored and don't know if there is other life in the universe. Perhaps our species has pissed off God so that God has decided no to talk to us or to show or reveal himself to us.

What, are you expecting Him to do an interview with Larry King or something?

Not to choose sides in the religion/atheism wars here, but most theists believe they have a personal, one on one relationship with God (and they don't join Him for coffee at Starbucks), so that means it's a private issue, and you wouldn't see Him if you weren't looking for Him.

Those who believe in God can point to the simple, yet enormous complexity which is something as simple as a daisy, and say if offers proof of God's genius of creation, and by extension, his existence. Non-believers can look at the same daisy, and see in it the wonders of evolution. So unless you simply intended to start a flame war, let's not go further than that.

In their own minds, believers see God and reasons/things to prove of His existence every day, and non-believers see just as many things/reason to disprove God every day. What conclusion you reach is up to you.

Hey............here's a novel approach............those whom choose not to to subscribe to a belief in any "Higher power"...................cool proceed as planned..........:)

Those whom do choose to believe in whichever "Higher Power" or "God" they choose.............fine...........continue to do so!:)

Why do either feel the need to proliferate their beliefs upon others????? Insecurity on both sides seems to be the only viable answer although both will deny it as you will see below!;)

That's the best thing I've ever heard in any one of these threads.

Amen to that.

I think it's gotten a little drab down here. I miss the old God of the Old Testament. What we need now are some good plagues. Mmmmm.....locusts.

Allah was guiding the hands of terrorists, helping them kill thousands of Americans.

As for God, obviously God does not exist, otherwise God would have stopped Allah.

Oh for god's sake (no pun intended). You can't prove god's existence, you can't disprove it either. You can't even prove that any other person really exists and isn't a figment of your imagination. The ONLY thing you can prove is that YOU exist. So live it up, chuck. By the way, if you're going to belittle the actions of my grandfathers and millions of other people striving their best to overcome the Nazis in WWII by attributing the victory to some crappy God, I'm going to have to spear your eyeballs on those uselessly typing fingers of yours.

Though it's probably pointless to post this at anandtech, i will though incase there is actually somebody really wants to know. It's from the Bible so i can already predict most of the comments, but again, maybe there is somebody that really respects and care to know.

hmm, not for sure what scripture it is, but it's in the old testiment. God showed up all the time, but people started to get scared, so he promised the world that he would not physically appear. And this has been more than 2000 years ago. I know i don't have the scripture so even to christians it means jack squat, but it's in there, and if anyone knows the scripture, please post it.

The punch line to one of my favorite old jokes is, Well, first of all, she's black. ;) Of course, it just points out the uncertainty of the nature of any diety that may exist.

Proud to be an atheist. :)

So you're saying Nell Carter should have gotten the role, instead of George Burns, eh? :)

Or, for the non conformists..............

bin Laden was guiding the hands of terrorists, helping them kill thousands of Americans.

As for the CIA, obviously the CIA does not exist, otherwise the CIA would have stopped bin Laden.
