How about this, what if you are a South-African white person, come to America become a citizen then what? Still African-American????

Having a tag to the American name, takes away the identity of what they are, Americans first

There have been people from South-Africa who migrated to the United States and received African-American scholarships for college.

American blacks have changed their prefered label so many times they've completely ruined any chance at people taking it all seriously.

There's no centralized Black body that decides what label they want and most Blacks probably don't care anywhere near as much as we think.

It's guilty-conscienced Whites that have changed the preferred label with which they address blacks so many times....

If you would of watched the latest southpark you'd know that Jesse Jackson is the emporer of black people...

I don't know personally but a few years back a I heard about a white dude(with blonde hair and blue eyes) who moved from South-Africa to the US with his parents applied for an African American scholarship and got it(after some fighting though)

Yeah..uh...I just call them black. That is what normal people do anyway. Non-whites call me white, and so forth...

I call black people black, because it seems least likely to offend anyone. I don't really like doing it, because there are very few "black" people whose skin is truly black, it may lead to inferences on their cultural background, etc.

And of course, there are times when it's inappropriate to include a person's phenotype in conversation at all. For instance, if I were to call someone a bastard, I wouldn't say, "You black bastard!" for fear of offending them. ;)
