Assuming that combined efforts of Apple and Microsoft with additional and aggressive patent claims along with continued licensing effort can discourage OEM's from producing Android phones and destroy the OS, which platform would you switch to and for what reason?

I'd probably not use a smartphone until a proper alternative came along. Not interested in iOS or WP7, especially so if they both actually managed to undo Android.

None of the above. Android isn't going anywhere.

It's a hypothetical question.

No one ever actually expects to be stuck in the arctic deciding whether or not to eat their friend's body, but we think about and answer the question anyway.

iOS just because of the huge following, development community behind it, huge selection of apps, and such.

WP7 looks promising, but it's still in it's infancy, needs more time to catch on.

I don't hate apple, I own an iMac. However, I do hate the iPhone. My gf has the 4s and it does nothing for me. I have played with a W7 phone and it was pretty slick, but I would have to see what the app situation is like before I would give up android for it.

Either Bada or Tizen depending on what Samsung started using for it's flagships phones.

I'd be tempted to go with Blackberry if they every release a quality touch screen only QNX phone. There is no chance that I would get WP7 or iOS.

I'd have to re-evaluate at that time. I have to choose based on the whole experience, not the phone or the OS or the carrier exclusively.

Well, a look at WM7 apps today told me I would go back to iOS if Android failed. That is unless Android failed because of Steve Job's wish (aka its Apple's fault), then I will just get that one Meego phone.

No idea, but I wouldn't want to start purchasing the products of the companies whose frivolous lawsuits killed competition. Bada, possibly. Definitely if Samsung follows an open, community friendly path with it.

If it happened today, I'd probably go iOS even though I can't stand despotic closed systems. Of course, if Android went away, perhaps MS would get a huge injection of app developers, which would make it more tolerable.

iOS most definitely. I'm thinking the high WP7 responses has to do with the extreme Apple hate.

Or maybe because its a quality product, and/or because WP7 offers certain things Android does that iOS does not, like hardware differentiation.

Back to iOS. The iphones have always been nice, just took a little more tinkering than I would like to get it how I want it. If the less tinkering choice wasn't available I'd just do more tinkering, but still get what I want. With WP7 it looks like no amount of messing with it would get me where I would be happy.

I'll keep Android even if I can't buy it at retail. No way would I buy from Apple or Microsoft if they are responsible for blocking Android.
