If android is gone I would switch to iOS.

Don't really like the look of WP7 mobile.

and if the zombie apocalypse that somehow managed to destroy Android, also destroyed the supply of aluminum cans and string, then I suppose I would go with WP7.

Clearly iOS is so wonderful that anyone who wouldn't pick it is just a hater.

Exactly. It's quite sad, they really don't seem to understand how it's possible that not everyone is enamored with Apple's way of doing things. So they blame it on hate.

This. Its these threads that really make me realize the true crowd here on anandtech.

You, really, honestly think that someone can't legitimately prefer something over iOS - they have to be "Apple haters"? Really? People ARE capable of independant thought, or dissenting opinions, you know.

Assuming that combined efforts of Apple and Microsoft with additional and aggressive patent claims along with continued licensing effort can discourage OEM's from producing Android phones and destroy the OS, which platform would you switch to and for what reason?

If Apple and Microsoft actually somehow pulled off the destruction of the Android platform (highly unlikely), I certainly wouldn't reward them for that by buying one of their smartphones. I'd probably get a Blackberry, since they should have moved the QNX and allowed Android apps to run on their phones by then.

yeah, rethinking my answer, I would get Bada--basically, whatever is available on whatever Samsung releases.

why, what are you suggesting? that only one mobile OS is tolerable?

No not at all. Android is a good mobile OS and it works great for a lot of people. WP7 looks promising and I hope it grows beyond its currently small user base.

You rarely hear iOS users say 'anything but android'. You never hear WP7 users say 'Anything but android'. There is a truckload of 'Anything but apple' android users. This forum is chock full of them. That is all I am saying.

well, I'm generally "anything but Apple," and that was waaaaaaaay before Android was even a fart in the wind.

From your above two responses are why people are saying "Apple haters."

I'm not a huge Apple fan myself, but I must say, that I did like the overall iPhone use and experience I had. I really didn't have problems and the battery life was phenomenal. I was often jailbroken, but I like to tinker with all my gadgets and did add on a couple things to make it to my liking.

I just find it hypocritical that you object to being called and Apple hater because you wouldn't touch an iPhone with a 10 foot pole in a fully concealed room, and would prefer a can and string setup, then later come back and respond that you've "hated" Apple since before the iPhone.

Which is it? You hate Apple or truly like other options out there? Nothing wrong with liking another option. Just don't be hypocritical about it and play both sides of the fence.

I also notice a lot of this. Apple gets a lot of hate which I've got no problem with, it's the fact that the people hating on Apple are trying to hate on them, yet don't want to be called an Apple hater.

To answer the OP. I'd probably go back to iOS if Android went under. I played with a WP7 in store and it wasn't really doing it for me. I'd need to have a test phone for a few days I think to make my mind up on it. However, with Apple, there is a familiarity there for me.

To each their own though. Each mobile os appeals to different crowds.

I wouldn't go back to iOS because:

1) In this hypothetical scenario the OP cooked up, Apple (and Microsoft) are to blame for Android's fall. Why I would support the company that brought down the one I preferred?

2) To ME, iOS is a big step down from what I can and like to do with Android. Not interested in giving up my options, variety, and customizations (as well as specifics like Google Navigation).

Note, these two would also apply to WP7 as well.

This is kinda sad, really.

Is it any different than "Anything but Internet Explorer" or "Anything but Ford" or "Anything but Burger King" or "Anything but Visio"? I could go on and on.

Is it really, honestly, so hard to fathom that some people are not interested in products and/or services from specific companies? Nearly everyone has brands/products they avoid from personal experience. What's sad is that some people believe it's impossible for Apple to be one of those companies.

You mean something like this?

I don't see a bunch of rabid fanboys frothing at the mouth demanding the death of Apple. I see a group of tech-savvy people making an informed decision that Apple's products are inferior due to their closed-off, proprietary nature and lack of competitive features. An opinion that's well-warranted, considering that just NOW the iphone can finally allow custom notification sounds.

No its not any different. You could lump all of those people into the 'hater' category too.

It is not a problem that there are Apple-haters. The problem comes when the Apple-haters try to deny that they are Apple-haters.

Just be honest.

You seem emotionally vested in Apple. I mean in a deep way. Like Bjork making love to noise. I mean, not with noise in the background. I mean, she sees music notes in the air and humps it.
Listen here meow, fanboys are just as dangerous as haters. There is no difference. None.

The only two people who said they hate Apple in this thread stated so quite clearly. I don't see how their opinions make up the entire forum's Android user base, that's an absurd notion.

Myself? I don't hate Apple. That would be odd, considering I own a MacBook Pro. However, I don't like iOS. The iPhone itself is a pretty nice handset (except for the small screen). But, it unfortunately only runs iOS, and the OS is more important than the hardware.

Nice try.

The problem is Apple-haters that deny they are Apple-haters.

I like Apple products. If that makes me a fanboy, so be it. But you do not see me bashing Apple competitors. I do not wish ill will to Android or WP7 - I welcome them as they result in everyone pushing to get better.

It is because Apple as a brand is purposefully polarizing, which has worked really well for them. Divide and conquer.
